  1. I think mine are all there .. maybe missing an operation or 2 but thats ok. There's too many to recall which ones I was actually on except the really memorable ones :)

    Bitmining

Only way to make $ is with those dedicated currency machines, and you need a few before it'll turn a profit (electric bill) I considered doing this but then the market crashed 1 week later.
  3. Boot from a linux live cd, if it works in there its windows, if it doesn't work in there its hardware >.> That way you can test 'will formatting help' without actually formatting. Just don't install the live linux to HD :P Also those things have an off button in the bios, occasionally windows will still see it but then it wont worky.
  4. UFO Enemy unknown(the OLD one), flight simulator 10, Supreme Commander FA/2, X3, Civilization, SKYRIM! If you've never played Evil genius, make sure you get that. Silent hunter 4 is also a good time waster, or try to build huge rail-roads with a train simulator. I've not played war-zone in ages, i have it on CD somewhere .. the idea of designing your own units was neat.
  5. http://style.org/unladenswallow/ Read it, learn it, answer it when somebody brings it up :P
  6. Here's my entry for the e-penis competition :P This is what I have atm(from memory, built it in January 2012): Intel I7-3960X @ 3.2Ghz (stock) tested at 5Ghz for a day with no problems. Gigabyte X79-UD5 motherboard 32Gb (8x 4gb) g-skill ram DDR3-1600 EVGA Nvidia 670 2GB (Had a 1gb, broke, got a 2gb back, bigger performance difference then I imagined O.o) Creative XFI Platinum PCI (With a powered front bay for headset, also tried PCI-E variant but it was horrible with unpowered bay, lots of static) 1x 256GB Crucial M4 SSD for Windows 2x 512GB Crucial M4 SSD for games / stuff that needs high speed / low access time 1x 2TB WD RE4 disk for downloads. PSU ... not sure .. I think it was an 800W A-Brand, forgot which. Case is a Koolance PC4-1036BK which is an oldie with liquid cooling. This is the 3rd (and probably last) build in this case. CPU is liquid cooled with lots of liquid (initially I had ram / chipset liquid cooled as well, dropped this in favor of flexibility and a lot less headaches, but there's still somewhere between 500ml to 1 litre of liquid in the system with 2 tanks) Logitech G19 keyboard Saitek X52 pro hotas flight controller. And Win7 :-) Home server (that runs Mercury) is a: Intel I5 2500K @3.3Ghz (stock) 8GB Ram (kingston I believe) Some gigabyte Intel 67 Chipset board with on board graphics 3ware 9650SE sata raid controller with battery backed cache (hardware raid ftw) cheap ass air cooled case that was big enough to house everything and had an on/off button PSU is an old 650W Enermax Laptop: Custom build around 'Clevo PM170EM-barebone' and a shiny unmirrored screen I7 3610QM Nvidia 675 2gb (with optimus) 16Gb RAM. DDR3 1600 1x 512GB Crucial M4 750GB Hybrid drive (Seagate ? not sure) Blue Ray writer combo drive. Shiny color changing keyboard Bigfoot N110 Wireless Home 6x 2TB disk Netgear Readynas NAS. 10Tb Avail. Pile of (old)spare parts that I still need to turn into a backup computer that include a Q9600 line cpu So far the only thing that had problems running on my main computer was the Witcher 2 at highest settings. But was still playable.
  7. Get Win7 instead >.> Also make damm sure the memory you are getting has been tested and proved as working with the motherboard. Search the support forums for the motherboard and the memory brand. Also a good stable power supply is key to a stable computer, it not only needs to be able to deliver enough W it also needs to be stable. A high amount of W and a high price card does not always mean its a good PSU either.
  8. *officially* you are not allowed to transfer a OEM license to a new computer, BUT there are a few standard excuses you can use in the rare case that the phone activation (which you have to use after you have used your key like 3 times) puts you through to a real person: 1. Your crappy operating system crashed beyond recovery and I had to format. 2. My motherboard broke and they gave me a different replacement. 3. I got hacked because your operating system is so insecure and had to format. I've not had to talk to anyone yet and I've re-activated my win7 a number of times >.> Also shun win8.
  9. The nvidia's will give you less issues IMO. Be sure to purge every bit of amd before installing it though. I wouldn't recommend saving for a high end card unless you plan on upgrading everything in the somewhat near future, cpu will not be able to push a high end card to its limits.

    SQL help

It is :-) Although I did once re-write an old 100 line function into like 5 lines that did exactly the same thing.

Good database design is key then :-) Ask if your school has a DBA that can give pointers, and use variables as table names in your code. I had fixed names initially in Mercury's predecessor and then search/replaced everything by variable names .. that way I could re-design tables while keeping the old one up till the new layout worked properly. And I've had to do that plenty of times :-) And be sure to add plenty of comments, even on your database tables when you plan on needing more then like 20.... and don't re-read your code after a year because you'll be going 'wtf was I thinking!'

    SQL help

mmm ive never actually had to use postgresql, I always found it weird but its -the- open source db for geo stuff. The most used commands are insert, select and delete, you'll want to read up on basic usage for those .. after that 'replace' and 'update' There are postgresql books as well, but my personal experience is that its easier to tackle a problem with google when it arises then to dig through a book. Postgress has its own documentation site that *should* help, the mysql one usually gave more questions then answers. If all else fails, go look for a forum about postgresql .. but try and get a general feel for it before even attempting to make a post. Most database forums have a large population of twats who will provide useless answers like 'look in the documentation' or a semi troll post about how silly you are for not knowing the answer. I had to do a lot of digging too for Mercury, discovering commands as I went along .. and constantly asking myself (and then google =p) questions.. If you want to reduce the amount of multi table selects being send from your program, look up 'views' If you want to do things based on changes in the database, look up 'triggers' Those are the main 2 time and efficiency savers that I started using more near the end. I'm quite sure the database would have had a way different layout if I had figured those out sooner =p But yea .. google .. postgresql.org.. php.net .. more google .. forums. That goes for both postgresql and php but the php manual is actually very good :) And boooo java! That is satan spawn.
  13. This. And yea its an image of everything pre-installed at the time you bought it probably.

What kind of SQL ? MySQL ? Postgresql ? Oracle ? Microshit SQL ? The syntax is mostly the same for all but the devil is in the detail :o
  15. I'm only hearing bad stuff about this game except for the graphics. I was originally thinking of getting it but opted for another game instead after hearing about how the US release went, but I'll probably pick it up once they fix all the problems and added bigger maps/off-line mode. The online mode is fun but a lot of people already realized its going to be seriously problematic further down the road when people stop playing or when cities go bankrupt and you're left on your own in a region with dead towns.
  16. It should work with a quadro ? :o Unless its just not playable because of low fps >.>
  17. Install both chrome and Firefox .. you'll end up preferring one over the other at some point and its not like they'll conflict. Both AVG and MS security get most positive ratings because they're free, not because they are actually awesome. Use K-Lite codec pack for multimedia, it comes with media player classic which is the old XP media player 6.4 lookalike that plays everything without having the bulky interface. For everything else .. install what you are planning on using in the near future.. install other stuff when you actually need it :P if you really feel that you need to install a whole array of bulky software that puts you at like 100-150gb used, get a bigger disk for it. If its a 2.5" disk they are priced the same-ish as desktop drives. The missing 60GB is odd, perhaps a recovery partition ?
  18. I missed that one then, the one around the bend for me only has another assault rifle.
  19. The default single player infantry mission is murder with the available weapon lol I need something with a scope so I can see what I'm shooting at other then 'vague blob in the distance' Graphics are awesome though, spent some time flying around in a chopper. Did get some low FPS while on top of a mountain and flying into down the valley.
  20. What I like most is the raging people on the steam forums about how 'the game isn't worth the money because its full of bugs' or because its crashy.
  21. ^ is almost right but forgot a 2 < neko since 2006 even though everyone else deserted! D:< v somebody who replies to near graveyard posts
  22. I signed up for the beta. I put 'I want to know if you're hyping this game with awesome trailers only to deliver a mediocre end product like so many others' as a reason for them to pick me. Lets see how that goes. They should use the SWG method of 'You are here, this is who you are, have fun!' and not restrict where people can go.
