Ordo Karaoke Contest w/ Prizes

Recommended Posts

So while I sit here unable for combat on my laptop, my mind wandered back to the silly idea I had for an Ordo contest: karaoke.

I don't know why. I don't know where this idea came from.

Don't ask.

But basically I figured it would be a fun little contest to get some non-combat participation going.

And for the luls.

So here goes.

---Ordo Karaoke Contest---

For fun, I have decided to to hold a Karaoke contest for Ordo Imperialis members while I am unable to fight.

Before anyone freaks out:

Hell no. This is not happening in vent!

So how is this going to happen?

This is going to be a contest held by submission of entry. You will submit your entry digitally, and it will be graded by the judges.

What is Karaoke?

I am too lazy to type out a description.

How to Enter

To enter this contest, you will be required to record yourself singing a song (you do not have to sing the entire song, but that will be discussed later)

1. Complete and post the entrance form (found at the bottom of this thread) as a reply to this thread.

2. Sing. Duh.

3. Submit the recording. The recording must then be uploaded to a file-sharing site such as MegaUpload or RapidShare or emailed to me directly (this is not preferred, and will be done only when the file-sharing websites are not an option).

That is it.

Winners

Winners will be determined by a panel of five judges, including myself. We still need 2 more judges if you wish to volunteer, but then you cannot enter)

Entries will be judged on the following criteria

-How well the vocal quality

-How well the song was replicated (proper lyrics, speed, etc)

-Overall performance

-Other random stuff? Maybe?

Prizes

What fun would a contest be without prizes!?!?

Prizes will be a monetary amount of products from companies that are represented in Ordo by active members.

Rules

-Participants MUST be personnel or veterans of the Ordo Imperialis

-Deadline for entries is March 5th, 11:59 PM SLT.

-Submissions must be in .wav or .mp3 format

-Any form of singing on Ventrillo will be a disqualification.

-Songs must be real. No parodies or song's you made up.

-Songs must have actual lyrics. No. You cannot sing

-Songs must be appropriate. I don't mean no songs with swearing, I mean no songs like Gunther - Ding Dong Song, or Lords of Acid - Show Me Your Pussy. Seriously. (Also, do not Google search "show me your pussy" to find out who sing's that song. You get some crazy ass shit)

-Songs must be in English. Exceptions made for well known songs. (Examples of Exceptions: Nena - 99 Luftballons. O-Zone - Dragostea din tei. Pretty much anything by Rammstein.)

-Submissions MUST contain a minimum of 45 seconds of actual singing. (For example, the first 15-20 seconds of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' do not count)

-Submissions must be you actually singing.

-Well known songs are preferred.

-Try to avoid signing a song already picked.

-Submissions will be posted in some form on the Ordo forums for all to enjoy.

-Tsume will also sing so you can laugh at him*. He will not be exempt from this. Q_Q

*This will be done between guns he is scripting, provided Aryte lets him leave the buildzone for his daily allowance of sunlight.

There are 3 methods you may sing by:

-A cappella: Just your voice singing in rhythm. No music.

-Traditional Karaoke Style: Your voice over a special music/back-up vocals only track.

-Sing-Over: Your voice singing over the actual singer's. Essentially the "ghetto-rigged" version of traditional Karaoke. If you chose this method you should keep the volume of the original track low so your voice is dominant over that of the original artist's.

---FAQ, Tips & Websites---

Q: But Tsume! How do I record myself? I don't have a program to do that!

A: Bullshit. All Windows computer have a program called "Sound Recorder"

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Sound Recorder

However, for better control of your recording (Able to start over easier, see your time, etc etc) I suggest Audacity.

It is free and very useful. I make my gun sounds with it.

For MP3 exporting: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Q: I want to sing X song, but I don't know all the lyrics. What do I do?

A: Look them up on this site. I'd say print them out or put them on screen when you sing.

Q: I don't want to sing a cappella. Where do I get background music!

A: For standard Karaoke style music, the more common the song the easier it is to get. Here are some sites.

The Karaoke Channel Online: Check the "Free Songs Only" Box

KaraokePlay: Use the "Search" option. You do not need to log in.

Ronan's Free Online Karaoke

Music Factory Karaoke: YouTube Channel with Traditional Karaoke Mixes.

---Other Questions---

Q: I can't sing!

A: Its all for fun. Try it! You have nothing to lose!

Q: I will embarrass myself.

A: You are not alone. I am submitting an entry to. So you will have at least one other person with you.

Q: What about X company. Can i get something from them?

A: If they are owned by an Ordo member, let me know and I will add them to the list. Otherwise, no. The point of the prizes is to support Ordo members and raise awareness about their stores.

Q: I am nervous! What do I do?

A: Go to your bathroom and sing in there.

---Tips---

-Stand up! It opens the airways and makes singing easier.

-Sing a song you like and are comfortable with. It will be easier!

-Don't sing out side of your octave! Bring the song to your level.

-Have lyrics on hand! Even if it is your favorite song, you can't be expected to know all the words by heart.

-Keep a good distance from your mic to prevent the sounds of your breathing from coming through, and from your breath hitting the mic and causing distortion.

-Warm up! Sing the song or song portion a few times before you record to get your vocal chords ready.

-Have fun! :D

I was gonna finally sit down and record tonight but made the mistake of attempting to upgrade my desktop to Windows 7 first, and that left my computer without sound or microphone drivers. Can I get an extension on the deadline for a late entry plz? I'll just bite the bullet and do something acapella if I have to. D:
