Pvp Reward Tracks

Greetings, Tyrians!

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ will bring a number of new Player vs. Player reward tracks, along with some exciting updates to both current and future reward tracks. Let’s take a look!

Mist Champion Reward Tracks: Me and My Mini MC
In previous blog posts—and over the course of several beta weekends and playtests—we introduced you to Stronghold, our new PvP game mode in which you hire troops to help you storm your enemy’s stronghold and defeat their lord. Along with Stronghold, we introduced Mist Champions, who are powerful allies in your struggle to defeat your foes. Now we want to give you a little more info about Mist Champion reward tracks.

To unlock a Mist Champion reward track, simply open the Mist Champions tab in the PvP Build panel and right-click on the Mist Champion of your choice. Just like obtaining build items in PvP, unlocking Mist Champions requires a small gold fee. Grymm Svaard’s reward track will be available for unlock by everyone. Nika and all future Mist Champion reward tracks will requireGuild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Turai Ossa will be available for immediate use by everyone and will not have an associated reward track.

As a fun bonus for unlocking Mist Champions through these reward tracks, players will also have the opportunity to complete a second reward track to earn that Mist Champion’s miniature. Going forward, completion of any new Mist Champion reward track will also unlock bonus tracks for acquiring their miniature versions.

Rank Reward Tracks: A New Dragon Deserves a New Dragon Finisher
In addition to Mist Champion rewards tracks, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns will bring a new series of reward tracks that unlock based on your rank in PvP. These reward tracks give you an alternate version of your rank finisher, themed for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Every player who owns the expansion will start with the new Jungle Rabbit reward track. As you finish each rank reward track, the subsequent tracks will unlock until you reach your current rank, all the way up to Dragon. And speaking of dragons, the Jungle Dragon Finisher is an entirely new finisher made especially for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns!

Image-3-Stronghold

Shards of Glory and Black Lion Chest Keys
Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns will introduce Shards of Glory, a new tradable crafting material obtained through PvP. Because Shards of Glory are going to be a part of legendary crafting—which you’ll learn more about in the coming week—we’re updating all reward tracks with them. To accommodate this change, we’re replacing two of the four transmutation stones on each reward track with Shards of Glory.

Finally, while there are several opportunities to earn Black Lion Chest Keys via your personal story, there hasn’t been a way for players who choose to spend their time in PvP to earn them. I’m super excited to let you know that we’re going to start incorporating Black Lion Chest Keys into some of our new one-shot reward tracks. This will include all of the upcoming Mist Champion reward tracks and all of the rank reward tracks mentioned above!

With Mist Champions, new miniatures, new finishers, legendary materials, Black Lion Chest Keys, and a whole new Jungle Dragon Finisher, there are a ton of exciting new rewards to look forward to in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns PvP! We can’t wait for you to join us in advancing our reward tracks with the lamentations of our defeated foes!

See you on the battlefield!

Daredevil Updates

Here are the list of proposed dates for Daredevil based on BWE3 feedback.

Aloh,

As we continue screaming toward launch, I’ll update this thread with the goings-on for Daredevil. Here’s a few things we’re testing now:

Reduced channel time of Channeled Vigor from 2.25 to 0.75
Vault: Fixed an issue that caused it to not travel its full distance.
Fist Flurry: Reduced cast time by 20%. note: The final strike occurs just prior to 1 second.
Evasive Empowerment: This trait has been renamed to Havoc Master and grants the player 7% bonus damage to enemies within the 360 range threshold.
Impaling Lotus: Increased bleeding duration from 8 to 10 seconds.
Bounding Dodger: In addition to granting access to the Bound dodge ability, the thief will gain 10% bonus physical damage for 4 seconds after dodging.
Lotus Training: In addition to granting access to the Impaling Lotus dodge ability, the thief will gain 10% bonus condition damage for 4 seconds after dodging.
Unhindered combatant: In addition to granting the Dash dodge ability, the thief will gain 10% damage reduction against physical and condition damage.
We like the interaction that Evasive Empowerment had with your endurance bar and wanted to carry it further, but didn’t feel like it could have the desired impact in the adept tier. Thus, each of the grandmaster traits have their own version, geared toward their specific style of play.
Havoc Master has taken its place, as we felt that the line could use a more guaranteed damage increase. For trait mods, we’d like to experiment with Weakening Strikes slightly, adding a secondary to it within its role of debilitation. Options we’re looking at it:

Inflict X (torment, bleeding, something) when you weaken a foe.
or
Receive less damage from weakened foes.
Once again, thanks for your continued constructive feedback. It’s greatly appreciated.

Nanites of the living Dead

As we all know (due to the stellar teachings of our patent-pending POD educational system, used in schools all across the Auraxis colonies!), the Space Pumpkin is an amazing fruit, genetically modified by talented grad students at the accredited* Nanotech University Online. This wonderfruit has literally dozens of proven medical and scientific uses that are beneficial for most humans. Unfortunately due to a recent class-action lawsuit, we are currently unable to discuss these uses, but boy-oh-boy are they great!

“That sure sounds super interesting, but what does it have to do with me?” you may find yourself asking.

Good question, talented and intelligent soldier! Due to a recent “mix-up”, some of our latest samples were shipped down to the surface of Auraxis instead of the testing facility that they were intended for, because Helen in Order Processing can’t seem to separate her personal life from her job long enough to get her assignments sorted.

Unfortunately due to the Space Pumpkin’s super-fast growth hormone, the samples have already taken root and are now growing on Auraxis. That’s no good for us or our court-ordered suspension of distribution, so we need you, the soldiers of Auraxis, to help us out!

It’s simple, really. Find a Space Pumpkin, destroy it, and bring the seeds (SPS) to a designated SPS-drop off zone, and you’ll get a reward!

Isn’t science amazing?

For a limited time only hunt down space pumpkins and use their seeds to purchase new masks (these masks are seasonal and can only be equipped during the Nanites of the Living Dead events).

Want to grab those seeds or XP even quicker? Grab a Boo-st to help you along!

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Core World Changes

Drawing inspiration from the success of last year’s 12x XP boost and the more recent Epic Story XP Boost, in Fallen Empire we’ve altered the core leveling experience from 1-60 for all players, making it quicker and more story-centric. Our goal is to create a tighter leveling experience that alleviates the fatigue associated with having to complete dozens of Missions per planet and that allows players to focus on the core storylines of their characters and companions amid the backdrop of the Great Galactic War.

To accomplish this we’ve established a new critical path, reducing the number of Missions players are required to complete in order to progress along with an adjusted experience curve. Additionally we’ve made a number of changes to Heroic Missions and re-classified Missions not considered part of the critical path as Exploration Missions. Here is some more information on those Mission types:

Critical Path: Should you choose, these are the only Missions you need to do in order to level from 1-60 without falling behind or getting too far ahead of the curve. These are also the Missions we consider most critical to the story of The Old Republic from level 1-60.

All Class Missions and the core story arcs for each planet are part of the critical path and we’ve updated these Missions to be easily recognizable on the map due to their purple triangle icon. They also have a purple display name in your Mission Log. Additional Missions on the critical path will retain the classic gold triangle icon and Mission log text.

Heroic Missions: On all planets up through Makeb the existing Heroic Missions have been revised in several ways in order to make them more accessible to all players:

All repeatable missions, including Heroic Missions, now have their own Mission icon: a gold triangle with arrows on it.
Heroic Missions have been adjusted to be completed by groups of 2+. This means that former [Heroic 4] missions have had their difficulties reduced.
Barring a few special exceptions, Heroic Missions no longer need to be turned in at an NPC or Mission Dropbox. On completion of the final step of a Heroic Mission, the Mission completion dialog will appear immediately in the field.
The first step of each Heroic Mission should give you a Heroic Transport item. Using this item (from your Mission Items inventory or the icon next to the task in the tracker) will transport you to a safe location near the site of the Mission.
While Heroic Missions may still be acquired from NPC’s in the field, you will also find a new Weekly Heroic Mission Terminal just outside of the spaceports of all planets up through Makeb. Accessing this terminal will allow you to easily acquire all the Heroic Missions for that planet.
Heroic Missions are now repeatable weekly and feature all new rewards!
Exploration Missions: Rather than cutting the missions that are neither Heroic, nor part of the critical path, we’ve created a new category of Exploration Missions. The ability to see or obtain these missions is disabled by default, but can be toggled on via a check box on the Map screen. These Missions are represented by a triangle with a star next to it.

Once activated Exploration Missions will still provide the same kinds of credit, experience, and item rewards you’re used to getting, allowing you to augment your leveling experience if you want too. With our new level sync you can even choose to do these Missions later without feeling vastly overpowered.

New Mission Iconography Quick Reference:

Purple Triangle: These are critical path story Missions: your class Missions, planet story arcs, certain Flashpoint story intros, and more, including the new Knights of the Fallen Empire Chapters.
Gold Triangle: These are critical path side Missions along with additional ones such as the Missions to unlock Flashpoints.
Arrow Triangle: These are repeatable Missions including Heroics.
Star Triangle: These are the Exploration Missions, optional Missions on each planet that can be completed at any level. Access can be toggled on via a check box on the Map screen.
Our goal with these changes was to allow you to level up in The Old Republic quickly, and by only requiring you to see the main story content from your Class and each Planet. Of course, if you want to level through group content such as Warzones, that option is still there too. We hope you all enjoy all of the changes we have made throughout The Old Republic on your journey from levels 1 to 60.

Conquest's disabled at KotfE launch

Due to numerous issues of people not getting their conquest rewards, Bioware will turn off Conquest for a month after the expansion.

Conquest Reward Issues and Fallen Empire | 10.06.2015, 09:37 PM

Hey folks,

We have read a few threads about issues with Conquest rewards not being granted and acknowledge there is definitely an issue with that system. As a result, beginning on October 20th when we launch Early Access to Knights of the Fallen Empire, we will turn off Conquest events for at least the following month. Once we resolve the issue, we will let you know when to expect Conquest events to return.

For those who have not received this week’s Conquest rewards, we’re reviewing the situation and will give you an update soon.
As a note, it is likely that over the next few weeks leading up to Fallen Empire there may be continued issues with Conquest rewards being granted. If you choose to participate in Conquests between now and 4.0, please be aware you will not receive your Conquest rewards when the Conquest ends. There is no need to file a Customer Service ticket. We will attempt to grant them to those that have earned them in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding.

Wildstar

Double prestige bonus

Put on your game faces people. It's time to be a player versus other players! “Power, Prestige, and PvP!” is a limited-time bonus event that doubles the rate you earn Prestige. Which isn’t, like it may sound, indicative of your recognition among the local monocle-laden nobility—no, in WildStar Prestige is PvP currency. From October 15 at 2am PDT until 11:59pm PDT on October 18, you’ll earn Prestige twice as fast.

You can queue for Battlegrounds starting at level 6 through the Content Finder (press the N key), or you can start an Arena team for practice or ranked matches, which begin at level 30 and 50 respectively. You can even take party in the most dangerous game of all: world PvP. Keep in mind that full social leadership options (such as the ability to invite others to social groups, like Guilds or Arena teams) require Signature status or reaching the 1,600 Cosmic Point reward.

Be sure to keep an eye on your Prestige—it caps at 10,000 points until you spend some. Visit the vendor regularly in Thayd (for Exiles) or Illium (if you're with the Dominion) to spend your Prestige regularly and wisely, and you can keep dominating the unlucky chuckleheads that made the mistake of going toe-to-toe with you.

See you on the Nexus battlefield!

Toy Story 4 Delayed

Toy Story 4, which is going to be a love story about Woody and Bo Peep (among other things), will open on June 15, 2018, according to Deadline. That represents a one-year delay from its previously scheduled release in June 2017. Taking Toy Story 4's original slot is Cars 3, the latest movie about cars that can talk.

The other piece of big Pixar animated movie news today is that The Incredibles 2 finally has a release date--but it's not anytime soon. The movie will open in theaters on June 21, 2019. It's been a long time coming for fans of the original, as that movie came to theaters in November 2004. Assuming The Incredibles 2 stays on schedule, it will arrive some 15 years after the first one.

Pixar veteran Brad Bird, who directed the original--as well as the 1991 Simpsons episode "Like Father, Like Clown"--is attached to direct The Incredibles 2. Details about the plot are being kept under wraps for now.

Power Ranger Re-Boot

While the original Power Rangers series was campy and overdone, it still remains important to the large and growing audience its had since it first launched back in the early ’90s. Just last year news surfaced that the series was making the jump to the big screen with Lionsgate planning a live-action reboot of Power Rangers.

The new Power Rangers film is set to be helmed by Project Almanac director Dean Israelite, with the script being penned by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class). While no official plot details have been revealed as of yet, Israelite previously described the script by Stentz and Miller as “mature but still playful” with it updating the series “in a really interesting way.” Based on those comments alone, it seems Power Rangers may walk the middle ground between the original series and the recent trend of grounded reboots, in order to cater to both audiences.

With production set to start early next year, Lionsgate has begun assembling the core cast for its Power Rangers film. Just a few days ago, an early shortlist for some of the roles in the film was revealed, with Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) and K.J. Apa (Shortland Street) being among the early contenders. As officially revealed via the Power Rangers movie’s Instagram account, the reboot has found its Pink Ranger, in The Martian‘s Naomi Scott.

Windows 10 to come to Win 8.1 Phones

Microsoft officially launched Windows 10 a little while ago for PCs, with the updated platform build becoming available as a free download in 190 countries across the globe. However, October 6 saw the firm launch a new range of mobile hardware designed specifically to run the platform, including the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones, and a new Surface Pro 4.

However, Microsoft has now revealed that it will be upgrading some existing Lumia Windows Phone handsets to the new Windows 10 software. Responding to a fan question on the official Microsoft Lumia Facebook page, Microsoft's spokesperson stated that "broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December."

Microsoft has released a separate statement saying "It is our ambition to make an upgrade available for majority of Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1," but added that the update would require a minimum of 8GB of onboard storage, which does rule out some lower-end models.

Windows 10 was downloaded 14 MILLION times within the first 24 hours of its availability. That’s right: 14 million –– a truly huge number. Initial reactions are very positive, too, meaning THIS could be the platform that brings Microsoft back into a lot of people’s hearts and minds. Below is the official line via Microsoft:

“It has been an incredible 24 hours for Windows and our fans. We’re humbled and grateful to see the response to Windows 10. We have seen unprecedented demand for Windows 10, with reviews and customer feedback overwhelmingly positive around the globe. We are doing everything we can to upgrade the world to Windows 10 as quickly as possible over the coming days and weeks ahead.”

As expected, Windows 10 is currently only available to PC users who have either Windows 7 or Windows 8 - it'll be free for a whole year.

When the update is installed, it'll continue to update to every subsequent build of Windows going forward, again with no charge.

The firm stated at its Build developer conference that other devices, including phones (Windows Phone 8.1 handsets), tablets, the Xbox consoles, and Microsoft's new HoloLens headset, will receive the new software at a later date.

Gamestop to be only retailer for Steam Machines

I don’t know what kind of black magic deal GameStop has made with the devil to retain its place as a relevant brick-and-mortar store in this digital age, but whatever they’re doing, it’s working.

GameStop has just announced that they will be the exclusive retail partner for Valve’s upcoming array of Steam Machines and their thumbstickless controller that’s used with them.

For all GameStop’s (surprising) continued relevance, their PC gaming presence has been minimal the past few years given the rise of Steam itself. But now that Steam has a console? Even if it doesn’t use discs, GameStop wants in on the action.

It’s unclear just how many of the variety of Steam Machines in existence will be on display in GameStop stores when this deal begins November 10th, and honestly I’ve lost track of how many there even are at this point. Dspite a partnership with the most significant gaming store in the US (GAME is getting Steam Machines in the UK, EB Games in Canada), I still don’t think it’s enough where Steam Machines are going to be flying off store shelves anytime soon.

Yes, maybe their profile will be boosted by physically being in GameStop, but the entire concept is something that has yet to prove itself, and I’ve never stopped being concerned about whether anyone outside of a very select niche is going to want a Steam Machine in the first place.

steam machines

Nearly all of them are more expensive than standard consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One, and there are some that actually cost over a thousand dollars for higher performing models. As of yet, they don’t have any exclusives to their name outside of games that are already restricted to Steam on PC. Those games and the high price point may suggest an appeal to PC gamers, but PC gamers already have their expensive rigs, and have proven they like playing with a mouse and keyboard instead of a controller. Why make the switch just to play in a living room? (which they could do already if they really wanted).

I can potentially maybe see Steam Machines gaining new relevance if they ended up working seamlessly with Valve’s new Vive VR system, which is supposed to be out before the end of the year, believe it or not. But while I have more faith in the success of VR than I do Steam Machines, that’s kind of a reach.

By letting hardware manufacturers run wild with a million different boxes and different price points, no one besides experts are really going to have any idea what Steam Machine to buy. I suppose maybe it’s good to put them in GameStops, so you can talk to an actual human being who can explain to you the difference between each of them. But even at that point, I’m not sure there’s a compelling sales pitch to be had when the price of PS4 and Xbox One are getting lower and lower, and traditional PC gaming remains appealing by itself.

Perhaps I’ll be wrong and Steam Machines will be able to disrupt the console/PC gaming industry in a meaningful way, but I haven’t seen anything to suggest they’ll do that at this point. This GameStop deal could help, but I think there are still many, many hurdles to overcome.

Follow me on Twitter, on Facebook, and on Tumblr. Pick up a copy of my first sci-fi novel, The Last Exodus, which is now in print and online.
