I sent the following letter to AN HC after Jason Backer formally quit SL to pursue real-life issues.

The prominence of the Praetorian Guard is something that has been hailed for a long, long time. The Guard has been viewed as the pinnacle of the Ordo’s tier of authority—for whatever reason, it is more common to find someone to aspire for membership within the Praetorians, than to aspire for officership. As such, the Guard has an enumerated responsibility to uphold the image and standards by presenting themselves as untouchables. The Guard is literally, the Guard for the Ordo. Over time, the paradigm and expectation of Guard duties has obviously shifted. Unfortunately, time constraints have disallowed the full attention required to ensure the evolution of the Praetorian. Because of this, the current focus is to overhaul and revamp the Ordo’s Praetorians. This is no small task, on account of the Praetorian Guard being chiefly unique in authority and concept. In the past, it has been viewed as a “catch all” unit—this, however, has resulted in creating a generally boring atmosphere for the Guard members. To create a truly elite, entertaining unit, the Guard’s authority and design itself will have to be reviewed and dramatically altered. To achieve this, we will first gather a consensus and understanding from existing Guard. Through several sit-down meetings, current practices and the possibility of future practices will be examined. After which, a concise plan for points to cover will be determined. The second phase of the restructure will include finding “where is the Guard needed?” This will include an officer sit down and open invitation to senior members to provide opinion. From this, the external idea and the practical element to the Guard design will be imposed. The third phase will be developing a comprehensive outline, detailing what’s to be added, changed, or excluded. After which, new handbooks, training routines, and material details will be added. Finally, recruitment and training will begin, preparing the existing members for their new roles while bringing in replacement Guard recruits.

I randomly wrote this up for use in any recruitment posters we throw around in NJ and such. Use it however.

Mr. Massiel! Happy Birthday. :D

Uildiar Kuhn, former Ordo, reapped and was approved for entrance. Per the norm, he'll be restarting as a wee-E-1. Make him feel welcome and try not to haze him too much! ;)

Then yourself and my officers are welcome to crack down on whatever there is, Kytec.

Enforcing the Standards: When the Imperator’s away, the cats better not play. In review, the prevalent complaint flowing down from the chain of command is the tendency for laxity to be present in my absence. This laxity comes in several forms—defense carelessness, general rowdiness, and apathy in attention. Foremost, defense carelessness: earlier today, Antsegnani dominated the defensive positions and secured my office . . . at 40% manpower. Although I am confident in the capabilities of my elite unit, I am equally confident in the capability of my defense. There is no valid excuse for this inability to perform. Rowdiness: your officers and the regulations in effect are inherently sacrosanct. Ergo, just because Aryte isn’t there to whack you on the wrist for doing something stupid . . . is not an opportunity to goof off. I will personally treat any dicking around in my absence as severe. Incidents of this have been pretty limited, but I want to stop it now and here before it goes any further. And apathy! Contrary to popular belief, the sim needs your presence and combat help even when I am not online. Get your rear ends over there when we’re under fire, especially in the early hours. Time and time again, Silverhawks (among others) exploit the low Ordo numbers at 6-7 AM. Professionalism does not come solely from the impositions of order; it comes from within, by an inherent desire to act appropriately.

Welcome back!

Chronus is now active and will be used for combat. As such, some things have changed. > Titan's red zones have NOT changed yet, do not go beyond the spotlights. > Chronus itself is a RED zone. Ordo personnel should not be within it. > Chronus is equipped with a Mercury reader, send homer, etc-- just like Titan was. > If someone TP's to Titan who is not Ordo, they are auto-sent home and told to head to Chromus. If Ordo TP to Titan, they enter just fine-- must have your main group tag on! > Chronus and Titan have been terraformed to be hilly and more combat friendly. They will change over time to ensure fun! > Chronus is open to shoot at! As soon as you see enemy, let 'em have it. > Astra may enter Chronus to engage aircraft if necessary. Preferred they stay in Titan.

Ah, this is the plight of every defensive officer's command. You raise valid points, to which I would hope everyone can appreciate. It is a responsibility of a defense officer to police these behaviors, but a general knowledge will go a long way in assisting that officer in presenting proper deployment. > The migration concern: this, hopefully, will be less of a concern with the shifting of the terrain and implementation of Chronus. The current design utilizes the terrain to create blind spots, giving the desire to run amuck to try to get into the battle. > Holes in the line: this is very prevalent during early hours and whilst defense is quiet. It has been a gift to people like Geodan more than once. > Running into LOS: oh man, such a simple concept but so very true. > Layered defense: again, this should be more improved with terrain. The trench line, in addition to earth works, to allow folks to spread out. > ADD: this is something that peeves me from time to time. I agree, a lot, it is very obnoxious and it detracts from the commands given. "Can I do this?" brings a flurry of "OH IS THIS AUTHED?" Please let your officers TELL you when something is ok. If something is REALLY pressing, like "fuck, I could get that guy with a mortar, and he's sitting there shelling us. . hm." Your officer should be able to infer it important from simply notifying the officer "sir, X is behind the hill doing this." If not, IM them. It's very helpful.

The Ordo will be born there. In the form of a ROAMING BAND OF AWESOME. I am so excited.

That is badass. Thank you very much Intus.

18JULY09: Capn Robonaught has been summarily ejected from the Ordo Imperialis, following two reports within three days in regards to insubordination and failure to behave appropriately within Titan.

Kytec provides an actually . . very realistic example.

Thank you Keller. Very well written. This is an excellent reminder and a great definition of what I'd consider operable conversation in combat.

Currently there is not an "unlock equivalent" regulation in place, so if you buy a minigun you don't have to unlock it, etc. The only deviation is jetpacks. You do need to unlock a jetpack before using a purchased one.
