  1. I like the assault backpack idea with mines and stuff. I think if we included mines, C4 with a bigger blast radius which takes some time to set up but can lay multiple packs, maybe some anti-tank devices, maybe some sort of thing which could transfer into a small turret, e.g. if you got to the top of a big hill or roof, a deployable turret which sprays faster than normaly bullets. I think if we made it into an assault backpack idea rather than an explosive backpack idea, it would allow more flexibility with items. obviously things like this should be asked for and only allowed to be deployed when given authorisation.

  2. I don't think E-3 through E-1 is a valid option at all. I would check to find people off base who can take the reigns for a while first. Why? As it has been said, they are new to the group despite what their previous experiences may be. They may have been completely qualified as a Merczateer or as an Alliance Navy member to take this position of command, but in the Ordo they are new and they have much to learn still. This is why we don't have an Enlisted In Command position, it's NCOIC/OIC and SoG.

Im E-3 and have been in the Ordo nearly 2 months now, i know how things run pretty well. I have had OIC quite a few times now and have never made any big mistakes, so i dont think theirs much of an issue with E-3's doing it. E-1 to E-2 maybe so as them ranks are normally earned very fast and the member is usally very inexperienced. But a a quote from the handbook:

    [E-3] Sesquiplicarius [Equivalent to: Corporal]

    - Maintains limited authority, based upon their assignment and situation.

I think E-3's should be allowed OIC as they are fairly experienced members, but anyone lower i think is to low for OIC.

  3. Back in my day the only way someone under E-4 would get OIC was if they were on at 2AM SLT and you were the only one on sim.

    *swings walking stick*

True it is normally around them sorts of times i get it, but i live in Britain so 2AM is around daytime for me.

  4. I like what your saying, although i think if you do it when your a lower rank you tend to get more experience in commanding positions, and learn through mistakes on what your doing. I am only E-3 and have had OIC loads of times now, and even though im low rank i don't make many mistakes with it anymore, whereas if a E-5 did it for the first time once he got that rank and screwed up, it looks a lot worse and is probably more embarrassing. Also with SOG your contantly having to get approval from the OIC to do anything, so if they are OIC and gone AFK, your kind of screwed. So i think being OIC at a lower rank, although it may land you in rough spots, is a great way of earning command experience for when you reach higher ranks, rather than getting high up and screwing up with OIC, which looks worse as higher ranks are seen as role models.

  5. The reason I want promotions and do the promotion exams is so that I can take on roles that require rank. I would love to lead raids and (Combat) trainings and do more for the group, but many of those things, such as leading raids, I can't do until I am at least NCO.

Yeah thats pretty much the same as me. I don't really enjoy doing them that much, but i like the idea of them and think they are useful and a good preperation for the following rank.

  6. Objectives have played a big part. When i used to play SL it was just a case of going over and shooting the hell into each other, and as their were no set ways of winning, most of the time armies just said they won even if they didn't do well. Whereas when i came back about 5 months ago, theirs objectives, which have changed a lot of things.

  7. Resource raiding is an extremely old school reason to have a fight. One could even say, all warfare is surrounded around resources and the gain and future control of key resources. Ours is a mysterious, magical glowing blue rock that has a multitude of fancy uses!

Regarding that, it is nearly always to occupy that resource rather than steal it. They tend to capture a base and set up camp. I think if the minerals were highly explosive and they had to use them to blow something up on base it would be good.

  8. What would the minerals be of use. Think about it, plenty of armies would attack another military to set off a nuke or capture their flags, thus their base. Getting mineral packs just sounds a little small scale. Wouldnt the mineral packs have to be some amazingly rare mineral that others have to have. As i dont think anyone would attack a military just to get a few packs of minerals.
