A forum reputation feature, when done right, is a good thing as it promotes individuals who make good posts to continue making good posts, while individuals making bad posts can see the error in their ways and perhaps in the future spend more time making a constructive post. Unfortunately, if irresponsible individuals abuse the system then yes, it definitely will not work. Keep in mind before voting: we haven't really given the system a real shot without abuse. This is an anonymous poll by default.

Should we disable it and move on?

*hint: topic is forum rep system*

Disable and move on! Above all else, there isn't even a rep indicator underneath the avatar/posts/group when you post as when rep systems are used elsewhere. Constructive posts should be the only posts. Delete bad things, don't slap them on the wrist as they keep doing it.

Disable it and go back to the rating of stars via profile. ;_;

That, or make it an admin function. Make it so only members of a certain rank, or maybe post number, can do rep points. Alternately, make individuals have a limited number of points to give out per day, based on the number of good posts they've made? That way folks who make good posts can help judge other's posts to promote more good posts.

Why disable it, its not doing anything, and like I said before.. Its a "lol" factor. It will always be abused, and never be used correctly, so why bother disabling it when no one pays attention to it lol. Just look at Aryte's +80 and my -30.. no one really cares.

Accept it'll be useless and leave it up for uselessness' sake, or disable it because it's useless.

Either way it's useless, as this forum is a side-usage from our MAIN communication method.

Reputation and the like is useful if the forum is the main method of communication, but we communicate mainly in SL and only put things here for posterity / record / wanting-to-show-lulzy-things-to-offline-people.

It really doesn't have a place here. We aren't a forums community, we are an SL military community that uses forums for one means of communication. We don't need any rep system for motivation, since posting well or poorly will reflect in SL with promotions or Curia sanctions (if you think Curia doesn't care about forums, think again, I used to send Kitsy several links regarding certain bad posters). What's more, it really becomes a popularity contest. I've seen Aryte get +rep'd for posts whose content is "Thanks for the report!" This feature is useful in communities which revolve around Forums, so a rating system would be like a caste system. I have also seen a good rating system used in VBulletin, where you are only alloted a certain number of points for rating others. In otherwords, for every +rep you get, you can + or - rep a certain number of people (not one, or else any good logician or mathematician would know that the total number of points floating around would dissappear to zero, thus defeating it). Instead, here, anyone can +/-rep as many times as they want, leading to rep-bombing, when all of an individuals posts are negative rated.
