  1. I agree that this is a good thing for the exact same reasons you stated in the notice. Seeing to the health of the influx of graduates as well as the established members promotes the "quality versus quantity" mentality.
  2. I've editted the post according the tips you guys have provided. Thank you! I'm going to work on adding some more commands to the list (at least the ones you've mentioned), Timmahy. Also, if someone could sticky this thread I would appreciate it. Thanks ahead of time.
  3. Perfect. I love the color scheme, it doesn't portray too much or hurt the eyes, and it aint too big. Great stuff.
  4. Note: I need to rewrite this as we now have a new HUD The Ordo Imperialis Utility HUD Guide INTERNAL - NOT FOR VIEWING OUTSIDE OF THE ORDO IMPERIALIS - INTERNAL ----------------------------------Extend to this length-------------------------------------> ******************************************************************** [Table of Contents] SECTION 1: Introduction and Readme Notecard SECTION 2: Information Server SECTION 3: Grenades o) Grenade Trigger Gesture o) Grenade Etiquette o) Terminology o) Flashbangs SECTION 4: Grappling SECTION 5: Rezzing Objects from the HUD SECTION 6: Command Usage and Etiquette o) General Rules o) "breach," "port," and "goto:" o) "goto:" destinations ******************************************************************** SECTION 1: Introduction and Readme Notecard ---------------------------------------------------- The Utility HUD is one of the most useful tools in Ordo Imperialis' arsenel; because of this, people should acquaint themselves through-and-through with its many aspects. It serves as a device that can rez objects, throw grenades, teleport its user in a variety of ways, connect one to the information server, and much more. The Utility HUD includes a readme notecard, which can be acquired by typing 'help' in local chat. The readme includes a detailed list of commands and some gestures that can be used with the HUD. Get the notecard, read it first, and use this guide as a learning supplement. Do not proceed to SECTION 2 until you've given the Utility HUD readme notecard a glance. ******************************************************************** SECTION 2: Information Server ---------------------------------- One gains access to the information server by clicking on the 'i' button on the right side of the screen. If one does not have an Ordo tag active, access will be denied to the HUD's user. The Information Server contains a vital pool of information, which includes the "Diplomacy" and "General Information" notecards. The "Diplomacy" notecard contains a list of hostile factions as well as Ordo's allies. This notecard is updated on a periodic basis, as the political scene in Second Life's military community is constantly changing. One should keep track of possessing updated copies. Recent graduates of the Schola program should read this notecard as soon as possible. The "General Information" notecard is a collection of notecards that define protocols, practices, weapons technology, hierarchy, expectations of leadership, and more. It also includes a copy of Ordo's handbook as well as general forms, namely the application and incident report forms. This notecard can be used as a wealth of knowledge to perpetuate one's career within Ordo. ******************************************************************** SECTION 3: Grenades ------------------------ Grenades are very useful on the battlefield and every graduate should learn how to use them as soon as they are able. To practice using grenades, ask over the COM channel for permission. Also, be sure that no one is nearby. You can access the grenade options by clicking on the grenade icon (third button down from the top) on your HUD. Grenade Trigger Gesture: --------------------------- Included in the Utility HUD's folder is a gesture that serves as the grenade trigger (throw key). The gesture you wear sets the 'F2' as the grenade trigger. Make sure you are not wearing any other gestures that use 'F2' or the grenade trigger will not work. You can edit the gesture to omit the "grenade" throwing sound as well as change the shortkey used. Make it something you wont press on accident. Grenade Etiquette: --------------------- There is an unspoken etiquette about grenade usage. If a soldier is overwhelming an attacker, grenades should be refrained from use. Flashbangs are acceptable in most cases. Smoke grenades should not be used unless the situation deems it suitable. Smoke grenades generate particles, which can cause performance lag. Turning particles down or off can help reduce performance lag in general. Remember, one should do what he or she must to achieve victory. If this means utilizing grenades, so be it. Terminology: ------------- o) HE - High explosive grenades. These will bounce and roll on ground contact. o) FB - Flashbang. Blinds and deafens those who come in contact in its explosive radius. o) SG - Smoke grenade. It creates a plume of smoke that encompasses a large radius. o) Plasma - These grenades will stick to any surface, including avatars, upon contact. o) Contact - Grenade will contact the ground with no adjustment to its timer. o) Contact + 1 - On ground contact, an additional second will be added to the grenade's timer. o) Timer - Time in seconds for grenade detonation. Once the grenade leaves someone's hand, the timer begins. Note on "Timer": What timer you set it to really depends on how fast you want it to blow and how far you need to throw it. A short timer is recommended if you want to blow it up quickly and at a short distance. A long timer is for vice versa -- although timing a long timer just right can make a big difference. Usually hostiles will hear someone throwing a grenade, but if he or she throws a grenade with a long timer, their opponent may walk into it unexpected. Flashbangs: ------------- Flashbangs can be very disorienting and there may be times where you are hit either by an enemy of friendly's flashbang. What to do if you get hit: 1) Exit mouselook. 2) Click on the sound icon on the bottom right of your screen to mute your sound. 3) If possible, run for cover and stay there until the flash dissapates. ******************************************************************** SECTION 4: Grappling ------------------------ The grappler is a movement enhancer that launches a prim, which attaches to a physical surface and propels the user at a high velocity. While within Titan and in combat situations, the grappler should not be used to travel a distance of more than 60 meters. In foreign sims, grappler usage is highly discouraged. Hostile factions may deem the grappler as a bannable offense, since it is a high velocity movement enhancer. It could be mistaken for teleportation or movement enhancers are simply prohibited. One should ask whether or not it is okay to use the grappler before visiting a foreign sim. The grappler is activated by clicking on the fourth button from the top on the Utility HUD. To use the grappler, enter 'mouselook' and use the 'left mouse click' button. There are a few very important things to bear in mind when using the grappler. o) Weapons will discharge if a weapon is unslinged and the grappler activated. The grappler will propel the user forward and he or she will more than likely hit their own bullets, resulting in the user's death. o) If a weapon is unslinged and the grappler is active, deactivating the grappler will result in the weapon "jamming." The easiest way to fix this problem is to deactivate the grappler, sling your weapon, then draw your weapon. o) With the above in mind, always sling a weapon before using the grappler. Then, deactivate the grappler before drawing your weapon. The process can be time consuming, as there is no text command to activate or deactivate the grappler. A soldier should not use the grappler in a situation where he or she is vulnerable. o) Do not abuse the grappler by throwing grenades on the fly. ******************************************************************** SECTION 5: Rezzing Objects from the HUD ---------------------------------------------- The rez command (rez:<object>) is used to rez an object from the Utility HUD's contents two meters in front of the user's avatar. Anything can be placed into and rezzed from the HUD. This can be useful to put into play to rez anti-personnel mines, vehicles, structures, etc. very quickly. Seconds can count on the battlefield when deploying hardware. To setup and object to be rezzed, one must do the following: 1) Place the Utility HUD on the ground. 2) R-click on the HUD and select 'edit.' 3) Click on the 'more' blue button. 4) Click on the contents tab. 5) Drag the desired item into the contents tab. 6) Pick up the Utility HUD. To use the rez command properly, the objects name must be spelled exactly. For example, "rez:praeda (v2.0)." The command can also be bound to a gesture, making use quick and easy. ******************************************************************** SECTION 6: Command Usage and Etiquette ----------------------------------------------- General Rules (excerpt from the readme): --------------------------------------------- o) Read the commands section. o) Try first, ask later. o) The HUD is a privilege; abuse it, lose it. o) Please report bugs/suggestions to Timmahy Widget or Aryte Vesperia. "breach," "port," and "goto:" ------------------------------- o) During official combat, one can only breach up or down 5 meters. The "breach:<distance>" command teleports an avatar up or down through solid objects, using a negative or positive variable respectively. o) Using the "goto:<destination>" function during official combat is strictly prohibited. o) Using the "port" function during official combat is strictly prohibited. "goto:" Destinations: ----------------------- goto:spawn goto:armory goto:hangar goto:bridge goto:cam (teleports user to their camera position.)
  5. Does anyone have images for each branch symbol (Terra, Astra, Navis)? I would like to get my hands on all three so I could make some general sigs. that anyone could use. They'll signify their branch and allegiance to Ordo Imperialis. Thanks!
  6. That's a good question. It took me awhile to figure out why he only got back to one out of every three instant messages. Wink.
  7. Hey everyone, I'm Sosarin Demar. I'm the guy who looks like a bat. I'm Texan. (If you say "I'm sorry" I will slap you with my wings and stab your eyes with moldy bananas.) My time on Second Life has been over two years. I've been a DJ (like everyone and their dog with a music library) and club staff. I'm also a builder. I mostly do avatar modifications. I've recently joined Ordo Imperialis and I am very impressed. After doing crack/cocaine for months, Ordo has cleaned up my act and given me a hell of a lot more to do on (the costume party) Second Life. Everyone I've met is teh lawl awsum (professional and mature) and it's great to fight with you guys. Things I do. Well, I'm a gamer nerdness. I also like to do a little writing. I enjoy role-playing, light or heavy. I'm mostly a MMORPG gamer. Some PvP games of note I used to play were Eve Online (for 8 months dear lord) and Shadowbane. I've played games as far back as Ultima Online. If I go back to a MMO. to PvP it'll most likely be City of Heroes. Anyway, I greet you all and hope to get to know more of you soon!
