  1. Perhaps I should better state this. Using george's example you're at your home and you have your 5 family members against 3 robbers. Thats fine, I wouldnt mind that, Titan will always have a large standing army, we are a big group with alot of members. My complaint is when you already have the robbers hog tied is that you call in your extended family to beat them all with bats until they are blooded beyond recognition.

Titan rarely has need to call in extra defenders, if you already have more active defenders than they have attackers, there should be no need to disrupt trainings or raids that may be out to come defend when we should be able to keep the upper hand.

I understand that this is not an FPS, and I do not play it because I feel that it is one. The discrepancy in used gear as well as in the difficulty of obtaining objectives often dictates the numbers required that would be "fair" to claim those objectives, but their comes a point where things are excessive and so in ordo's case in order to limit that excess you have to either 1. reduce (unacceptable) or not call in (more acceptable) unneeded numbers or 2. limit the gear that these numbers can use. As you have all stated quite clearly 1. is not much of an option usually (but is sometimes) because we want everyone to have fun, so you have to go with Mark's suggestion of 2. using less powerful stuff.

  2. While what I have to say doesn't talk much about gear, i feel it addresses the same problems Mark is talking about.

    NUMBERS

I would have to say the biggest complaint I heard from those outside of ordo was never much about our use of gear, but rather the numbers we deployed. Before the advent of ratio rules (which I am sad to see are even necessary) the ordo would regularly fight sims with a numbers advantage and not only that, would often reinforce with more if they were loosing. While I'd like to say this is getting better, its only really because of the aforementioned ratio rules, which we stick to (because we do stick to the rules). But as the last few raids to chaos have shown, our desire to use overwhelming numbers force enemies not only to implement these ratio rules, but to design their Sims with (nigh) impossible objectives.

Now as for Titan, our home sim, I am the most gravely disappointed in the behaviour of defending OICs. Two trainings that I have been on have been interupted from calls from the OIC wanting more people on the line due to "enemy raid". Which usually ended up with 3-5 people agaisnt what became 15-20 defenders. Our objectives are quite fair, and when we have even numbers (when we train/ART) it is very common for the attacker to actually claim all the points. I am proud of this, actually possible objectives. However i believe I will never see these objectives actually ever captured by an enemy due to our lack of respect for being fair in our own sim in regaurds to numbers.

Since when do you 20 players on a football team all take the field at once? or 10 basketball players on one side? When you join a FPS server you cant join another side if it has more players than the others, why should we allow this at titan?

We are infinitely more fair on raids than we are in our own sim, I'd rather have 3 people with pistols than 1 person with a mini gun, bodies are worth far more than the gear they hold (not talking about tanks/planes yet) especially when medic tps are involved. I was very excited to see that chronus was actually going to be a "fair" sim with a 10v10 system, and equally disappointed when the project fell through.

I have never enjoyed a full scale raid on titan as much as the trainings I have had on it (even after loosing). We basically flood our sim with 30+ people whenever a 10-15 person raid comes to titan. Not only does this mean the enemy wont ever gain a foot hold, but that the whole time we fight through lag and bullet queing. This makes defending boring and static as we basicaly sit in courtyard, ne road and sw road and slaughter them as they come out of the spawn. I'd much more enjoy actually loosing points and have the actual stress and eventual VICTORY of recapturing them. By limiting the numbers we deploy on defense not only would we increase our own fun of defending, but we would encourage more people to actually attack titan.

One of my favorite policies from Ark was that they would actually kick AFK/idling members off the sim when an enemy came because in their rules, the attacker could bring as many people as we had on base, even AFK people. Obviously I don't think this policy would fly in titan because 50% of people are usually idling on titan at any time (doing paperwork/playing games etc) But It emphasizes our lack of thought of numbers into our idea of "fairness" in combat.

One of the most ubiquitous comments I see here is that ordo are "the best trained troops" but if we need 20 of them to defend agaisnt 5, how can you really believe in them as such?

But all of this aside is ATTITUDE and our general combat culture.

Many people in the Ordo let their emotions during combat get the best of them, it is very very VERY noticeable in the tone of voice of the OIC of defence or offence, people get on edge, they get frustrated. It also influencing their decisions. For this reason I believe that NO OIC nor raid leader ever be able to engage in combat during the fight. Leaders who are not in direct fighting will be less affected by the stresses of combat (ie: being shot over and over by the invincible tank), will be able to better communicate with the opposing side over any issues (such as the invincible tank) and will be more likely to make fair decisions in regard to troop deployment and gear choices.

As a soldier in the ordo, the most demoralizing thing by far is to see the commander stressed out, the commander's emotions are transferred to his troops and completely sets the tone for the engagement. If the commander is able to be more laid back (out of battle) he can act as a counterbalance to the normal stresses of combat and create a strong pillar of stability which increases both the moral and fun of combat. But if he himself is subject to these stresses, it can completely suck the fun out of things.

I fear being chosen for writing a combat report after returning from a raid in which we did not complete the main objective, because I feel like we've actually been defeated, not because we didn't do our best, or that the enemy was playing unfair, but because the commander usually has demanded victory over fun, concentrating only on that last objective, rather than how well we were doing given the situation.

I feel like going into a sim with an emphasis on having fun, rather than claiming absolute and final victory, would defiantly make combat alot more enjoyable. (likely for the other side as well)

I feel like I've tried to make too many points here rather scatteringly (likely with poor grammar and such) but hopefully something will be understood.

  3. free weapons and armor! (i have to stay or the guns unequip :( so unfair and that damn screwball texture :C )

but seriously, I love the people, I find that the majority of ordo personnel are always open to talk or help me out. I can relate to people here more than anywhere else I've ever gone. The maturity level here is pretty high and while this level can sometimes yield a little too much seriousness in some occasions, I find that most people are able to temper their seriousness with good judgement and courtesy to produce an optimal atmosphere.

  4. I'm going to be joining in, but I'm being pulled in 4 different directions in who to play it with, I generally don't like pvp servers because mmos havent learned yet how to make world pvp actually enjoyable for both parties involved, rather than a gankfest. 1 out of 10 times you might fight someone your own level, but thats pretty rare, and if you beat them, they'll get on their alt or call guildies and camp you. Its (in my opinion) a stupid waste of time that only proves how dickish people can be.

I'd probably be an imperial agent healer

  5. I'd think having a singular pool would be beneficial, but i believe that people need to be let go if they are not teaching (unless there are for instance like atm, no /few students to teach), for instance if they haven't taught a class in 2 weeks they should be given a warning, and perhaps after a month of not teaching one class (baring having few students to teach, or being on vacation etc) they would be let go

  6. Why do these need scripts?

An invisiprim script sets the texture. Once set, the texture doesn't need to be changed, it is permanent (unless you fuck up and change it). As such, a script isn't needed. If you have digitigrade legs which still have scripts...i'd recommend removing them, because the builder didn't realize this.

thanks for this, i deleted all my invisaprim scripts =3

  7. Frankly, no. We shouldn't allow photography, we're a military base, not a tourist attraction :(

And yeah, we go to enemy bases and photograph and map them. They're free to try and stop us. But we shouldn't allow people to run about snapping photos. It's just bad for security.

Please define and expand on what you mean by "security".

  8. In case anyone is curious about what's the difference between actually REMOVING a script and just disabling it, all scripts (even efficient ones) will eat up a small amount of script time and server memory, even when they're disabled. It may seem minor but it all makes a difference when the sim starts to choke in heavy combat.

when you say disabling do you mean unchecking the "running" box? or will doing that allow the script to remain in the object and not take up script time

  9. Hai! I´m Merk Thor. A stupid swedish guy that keeps on getting in trouble. My English is kinda bad, but mozilla firefox helps me :D. Some has already seen me around as the short annoying lion. I like carrots. And cookies. And carrots, But mostly Cookies :D

Been doing a lot of roleplay around SL, everything from pirate roleplay to Vampire to Post-apo. I´m a friendly person based on Php. No I don´t script, that just popped out of my head. On the other hand I do make animations, Some textures, Building, Easier sculpties and cookies :D The random stuffs i build are free. You can find them on xstreet when I find somewhere to place my box.

I like helping ppl so just ask anything anytime and I´ll do my best to help.

I think that´s about everything, A stupid swedish guy that builds freebies and get´s in trouble Cuz of crappy english.

Yah think i got it all :D

your english is better than mine :o

  10. Starting this up was a rather unfortunate and embarrassing error on my part. I'm just not much of an RPer.

Anybody who thinks they have the chutzpah to take over this thing can have it.

sad face, i actualy went to district 13 before i joined ordo and found it empty, it was rather sad cause i was intrested in post Apoc rp c:, seeing this i got excited again, but then looking at the post dates ... xD musta died off in april or so.. sad, but meh, rping persistant worlds get boring realy fast, if your going to rp it should be with a group at a set time, otherwise people come and go at too irregular of times and then people get bored cause no one is on until no one comes at all, persistant world rp requires a certian critical mass of rpers or they just die, especialy if there arnt any events or such to keep things going

  11. Oi, suppose i never did make one of these, so why not c:

so hello c: I be Czyrek, Its likely you've seen me around, either as the green thing, and currently now a bit more brown. I'm love to talk :D though I often get tunnel vision and can like wake up after an hour of building and realize like 5 people wondering where i went xD, I must applogize to everyone in advance D: for any long periods of unannounced silence or an unscheduled departure, I'll usually remember after and log back in to say goodbye x3

Anyways enough disclaimers :3 I'm a recent graduate with an information systems major, which no one seems to know what is and doesn't seem to be helping me to get any jobs (can i hear an amen? lol) I'm currently residing in Bakersfield, CA though i grew up in Reseda c:

I'm quite a fan of musics and love most of it, excepting rap, and modern country/pop... and the souless stuff they dare call rock now a days xD otherwise its goodly c:. I love learning about new cultures and languages c: ... history in general too :D. Always have liked video games and have played a fair few as well as being a big fan of table top minis and rps . As well, i do like to draw a bit, but mostly i have been uninspired and unmotivated x3

I came to SL on 4/29/2007 and have been off and on since then, usualy burning myself out and leaving for a few months but then returning. I've mostly done rp groups like star trek, medieval stuff and recently some Traveller (<3) They always sucked though, The ordo is a splendid place to be now, no more "no weapons" signs :D! I look forward to doing my best for the Ordo and all its members. Hail to the Imperitor :D!
