Grim Troops 19MAR11 0905 - 0920

Recommended Posts

At 0905 a large group of grim raiders had mass entered the sim for a raid, Ordo was called to react to this raid with heavy force based on past tactics used by the grim troops. Under this heavy weapons fire Grim decided to devolve to their basic instinct of insults, and smack talking.

In review this is just another example of how Grim Troops contunues to show us disrespect, and slander. I am going to request that blockade is once again at least considered, our member base does not deserve to be disrespected in this manner.

If they didn't bring out the heavy weapons first, we should not have used heavy weapons to combat them with.

That aside, I lol'd.

Okay, picture this. You've been up all night and you've spent literally ten hours defending against lone-wolfers non-stop. No breaks longer than a few minutes at a time, just lone-wolfers all night for ten straight hours, dealing with cheeseshit spamcannons and horse vagina ninja backflip AOs and broken English and shitty attitudes. Things seem quiet and it seems like you might finally have enough time to take a much-needed goddamn smoke break but oh, check it out, here comes Grim Troops. You ever fought Grim Troops? The only time I ever see them in Titan with any numbers is in the early AM, sometime between 5 and 7 AM SLT usually, and they do the same thing every time. They rush to the Forge in the NE corner as fast as they can, cap the objective, and then hole up down there. They use a lot of aggressive gesture-TPing so they're goddamn close to impossible to remove because in addition to immediately TPing everyone back there at every opportunity, they all wireframe. They do this for usually a couple hours.

So in my sleep-deprived state, having spent the whole night not only fighting these people off (entertaining them, really), but also trying to keep track of how long each bored keyboard-warrior had been there, trying to figure out how to divvy up all those Mercury reports in a way that made sense (gave up on that sometime around 7 AM my time), trying to enforce rules upon people that respond with bitching and name-calling because they're convinced that I just couldn't handle their l337ness, and trying to keep track of intermittent visitors running around, maybe I lost my head a little bit.

It's easy to try to say it should've been done by the book and all when you weren't there but I would bet money that if you were in my shoes, you'd be singing an entirely different tune. Everybody that had been there with me the whole time had my back on it.

See that last part is where you should step back and re-read it. If you're sleep-deprived and been defending/managing defense for ten hours, maybe it's a good idea to hand OIC off to someone else and take a break. We got plenty of able NCOs that can handle it for a while and, most importantly, won't go unleashing unholy hell on every hostile who enters sim.

And towards Arch specifically, they responded in much the same way I personally would. From their point of view, to come on sim and immediately get bombed into the stoneage isn't fun or challenging; it's stupid and makes us look like a pack of asses.

But that aside, the group as a whole was not bashing so much as specifically Dylan Seminario was. I recommend he be taken care of before anyone else.

I'll defend Zrazor here. There was way too much going on today with the morning hours. Lots of people coming in and bitching. People using questionable weapons. And there was almost always no break. In fact when I was there, one person had been fighting, one had just started, and by the second finally hit his limit, a third appeared.

I challenge anyone to Zrazor's position. Nightshift is not fun when you have this amount of dipshits running amok when you've only got a minute handful (At Best) of teammates to stand next to you at that hour of the morning. People going to sleep still logged in, giving you the false impression you have the ability to hand off OIC, and nobody answers the call.

Not saying much can be changed, thats just the way Nightshift is, and those guys as well as a few other groups KNOW it hurts to strike at that early in the morning. So cut em' some slack, thats a hard morning to wait all night to greet with not many to stand beside you on a typical basis!

I agree with this statement.

Even though the Nightshift is left with a minimal amount of people, there are still others to hand off OIC to. Especially in a sense when you're tired and need rest. Yes, it's significant to defend Titan but Real Life comes before Second Life. In this situation Real Life really came first because then we have issues where tired OIC's have difficult leading the line. I also agree that I probably would've reacted the same way if I entered the sim. The original post seems too vague to show any type of harassment. Were there any IMs where they actually slandered or acted disrespectful toward us?

Put yourself in Grim Troop's shoes, and if you were to attack a sim and faced with harsh techniques - how would you react?

Regardless of what force was applied by the OIC's command, the disrespect afforded toward the Ordo is fairly mitigating toward command error. Noting that Grim was aware who the OIC was at the time, I do not find it unreasonable to believe it was within their capability to message him and lodge a complaint / request for de-escalation of arms. Standing in our spawn talking shit is not a de-escalation in any shape, way, or form.

However, sleep deprivation is not necessarily a viable excuse to institute unusual application of force. I trust there was reason beyond that.

Regardless, this is an administrative issue. Debate is unnecessary.

In order to put myself in Grim Troop's shoes, I'd have to be following a leader who griefed both the Ordo and the Merczateers, daily, for over a month, utilizing sim crashing munitions each time. They're lead by someone who tolerates and allows shit talking and improfessional disrespect by his troops to happen on a normal basis. We hold ourselves to higher standards, backed by a strict and well upheld structure of rules and regulations. I don't think any of us can relate to what they do on a daily basis.
