Kishoshima Dragonash
so... Im finally at a point where I can start looking into some very badly needed upgrades for my dinosaur. Right now all Im considering are a new powersupply (before this ones completely) and a new ATI Radeon GFX card. The vid card's easy.. 1 gig ATI Radeon HD 5870... the PS on the other hand.. Im not sure about. I need at LEAST 650 Watts so that I dont have to worry about upgrading again in a few months time.. Any suggestions?Current Specs: Processor 2.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium D 16 kilobyte primary memory cache 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Multi-core (2 total) Main Circuit Board Board: Intel Corporation D946GZIS AAD45436-402Bus Clock: 200 megahertzBIOS: Intel Corp. TS94610J.86A.0047.2006.0911.0110 09/11/2006 Memory Modules 3326 Megabytes Usable Installed MemoryAny suggestions for other upgrades, including the GFX (as long as its ATI and not Nvidia) are more than welcome. Eriksson Foxtrot
http://www.ibuypower...e/Gamer_HAF_92AThat's actually a reasonably priced computer; and it boasts the world's first processor with 8-cores. For that price it'd be worth just buying the complete new bundle. Lol
Kishoshima Dragonash
No more than 300 - 400 for both the GFX and the PS, Afevis.. at the most.I'll take a look at the system Kiwi, maybe my PS will hold out a couple more months and I can work out a budget for it. Thanks guys.
Scarlet Flaks
Just because it's an 8-core processor doesn't mean it's good; The FX (bulldozer) chipsets were recently released and are expensive, but under-powered, 8 cores means nothing in contrast to clock speeds and a slow GHz. You could buy an i7-2700k and have way better performance. That said, I bought this PSU about a month ago, it's fairly cheap for the output, and it's graded at 85% efficiency, which isn't too bad. It's also really quiet and runs cool, and it's modular.Secondly, Measure the room inside your case before trying to pick out a GPU. Your motherboard is a microATX form motherboard, meaning you probably only have 1x PCIx16 port and not a whole ton of room.To be fair, Eriksson's idea of completely updating and buying a new PC isn't a bad one considering the size and age of your motherboard (4gb RAM, dual-core only), aside from the part that most of those prices are higher than they should be. Black-Friday/Cyber-Monday are soon, hold off on buying any parts until then unless you're absolutely sure you've found a deal worth getting. As far as specific GPU's go, if you're not afraid of nVidia, anything GTX460~560TI should be moderate in price and excellent in performance. You can pick up a 560TI for under $200 if you shop around. On that note you can probably also find a decent HD6950 for around the same price if not a bit more. Just read a ton of reviews first as some manufactures don't honor their warrantys, rebates, or just simply build bad products that overheat. Also, try using this, it's nifty. http://pcpartpicker.com/

Eriksson Foxtrot
@Scarlet;8 CORES IS FAST ENOUGH FOR ME, EHUHUHUHU(it's 3.6GHz, with a 8MB L2 Cache, however you're right in terms of it does get out-performed by some of Intels' i7 models; 2700k included)
Kishoshima Dragonash
Personally, I cant stand Nvidia.. every system Ive ever had Nvid in, has had issues. Radeon cards, at least from my experience combined with Intel processors have given me the most power, the least problem and the best bang for my buck.. but its definately worth looking into.
