Praetorian Revamp: Process

Recommended Posts

The prominence of the Praetorian Guard is something that has been hailed for a long, long time. The Guard has been viewed as the pinnacle of the Ordo’s tier of authority—for whatever reason, it is more common to find someone to aspire for membership within the Praetorians, than to aspire for officership. As such, the Guard has an enumerated responsibility to uphold the image and standards by presenting themselves as untouchables. The Guard is literally, the Guard for the Ordo.

Over time, the paradigm and expectation of Guard duties has obviously shifted. Unfortunately, time constraints have disallowed the full attention required to ensure the evolution of the Praetorian. Because of this, the current focus is to overhaul and revamp the Ordo’s Praetorians.

This is no small task, on account of the Praetorian Guard being chiefly unique in authority and concept. In the past, it has been viewed as a “catch all” unit—this, however, has resulted in creating a generally boring atmosphere for the Guard members. To create a truly elite, entertaining unit, the Guard’s authority and design itself will have to be reviewed and dramatically altered.

To achieve this, we will first gather a consensus and understanding from existing Guard. Through several sit-down meetings, current practices and the possibility of future practices will be examined. After which, a concise plan for points to cover will be determined. The second phase of the restructure will include finding “where is the Guard needed?” This will include an officer sit down and open invitation to senior members to provide opinion. From this, the external idea and the practical element to the Guard design will be imposed. The third phase will be developing a comprehensive outline, detailing what’s to be added, changed, or excluded. After which, new handbooks, training routines, and material details will be added. Finally, recruitment and training will begin, preparing the existing members for their new roles while bringing in replacement Guard recruits.
