Star Citizen: Everything you need to know.
Snip it from Wikipedia
Star Citizen is an upcoming space trading and combat simulator video game for the PC. It is expected to consist of persistent world massively multiplayer, single-player campaign, and customizable private server components. Players will take the role of spacefaring humans in a 30th-century Milky Way centered around the fictional UEE (United Empire of Earth), an analogue to the Roman Empire. A central theme of the game is citizenship (or lack thereof) in the UEE. Players will not automatically be granted citizenship, and instead must earn it, if they desire, with in-game opportunities being influenced by it. A strong focus will be placed on player interaction. The game is slated to enter alpha phase in Q4 2013.
Star Citizen is currently being developed by Chris Roberts' Cloud Imperium Games, founded in 2011. Roberts' previous works include games such as Wing Commander,[7]Privateer[8] and Freelancer.

Short bio of all ships by Zerowinged
Ships that are currently available for purchase (with lifetime insurance):
• Aurora = The base starter ship, comes in several variants. Cheap and inexpensive.
• 300i = Modular "Jack of all Trades" ship. Can be fitted to be pretty much everything to do pretty much anything. Currently available explorer, fighter, and racer variants.
• Hornet = Workhorse fighter craft used by the UEE Navy. Can dish out some heavy punches and take some decent hits as it is a military craft.
• Freelancer = The workhorse of the fleet, larger and more modular ships meant to be able to do pretty much everything from mercantile to supporting with firepower during fleet engagements.
• Constellation = One of the largest vessels available. Featuring two manned primary guns, comfortable seating for three, and a shower room in the rear. This ship, like the freelancer, is modular in the sense that it can basically do anything.
• Retaliation Heavy Bomber = Just as it sounds, a jump capable heavy bomber usually designated for long-range strike missions against larger vessels (such as carriers, destroyers, and corvettes).
• Gladiator Carrier-Based Bomber = Incog' might like this one. This ship can either be a torpedo or dive bomber, to my knowledge, featuring a tail gunner and a payload. Think Liberator in PS2 except actually awesome.
• M50 Interceptor = More of a speed based vessel than a heavy hitter, small and hard to hit... Massive engines... Point A - Point B.
• Drake Interplanetary Caterpillar = An up-armored transport vessel, typically seen in pirate raiding operations. Think armored drop-ship with fangs.
• Cutlass = Pirate vessel, in all terms of the word. Nimple and relativity inexpensive. At the moment it comes with a docking collar so you can board enemy ships and seize their cargo... Granted your solo so good luck taking on the crew.
• Avenger = Fitted with a single forward ball-turret gun, this is a basic "im ma shoot something" ship commonly used by galaxy police forces.
• Starfarer Tanker = The first announced (dedicated) municipal vessel to date. This ship is massive in size, capable of hauling large amounts of loot, other ships, etc. from point A to point B. For you EVE Online junkies. This is basically a miner/jump freighter from what I am hearing. It is designed to absorb gases from stars and haul it to a station for sale. Regardless of its large size the thing is rather fragile and requires a almost constant guard.
• Idris Corvette = Big ship, big guns, big booms, 10 man crew. Largest ship one person can own.

Some of us do play LOL but nothing very structured. It is one of those games we do play time to time for easy enjoyment. I have not seen anyone at all get together a team to do l33t pvp constantly.
Yet on that note, we do not shun people who are wanting to actively play the game and get a crew together. I am sure some people would play the game if it was a group of people more active in it.
