  1. It's awesome. Dark Heresy is a blast, provided you accept that early on, your team will die a bunch until you become hardcore paranoids who strive to have heavy weapons and gear for the inevitable showdown with something incredibly nasty.

  2. Raw power wise, the PS4 wins...but Sony has also been notorious for how difficult it can be to develop on their consoles. I'm still going to hold out and see for actual side by side demonstrations of both systems on games before I make a judgement on the matter.

  3. Actually, yes, Microsoft has mentioned they intend to use considerable optimization and milk every last drop of performance out of it. It's one of the advantages any console has over a PC, you can program for a specific set of system components and push them to their limits without having to worry about compatibility, etc for different and sometimes random parts. Each console is practically identical, aside from something like a hard drive.

Having watched the whole news reel, and then reading MS's press release, I'm actually interested in seeing how they will continue to attempt to consolidate different devices in the living room into a single device. I think it's cool, frankly. I for one, am tired of having to rent out a cable box to my cable company, and if I can use my Xbox One to reduce my digital cable bill, you bet your ass I will consider it simply for that, ignoring the other uses I get out of the console. The new Kinect sensor is a considerable leap forward, as well, and should be much more useful in games than the old one was, especially since it can now detect more subtle motions like the rotation of your forearm and wrist, you could twist a knob in a virtual cockpit or flip a light switch in a room.

I'd also point out, Sony's explanation of their new system was considerably more light on details and specifics, revealing, in essence, only a controller. A nifty looking one, mind you, but it was a bit of a let down. I look forward to seeing what Sony will bring to the table at E3, so we can get a more solid idea of what the next gen systems will really look like, side by side.

I'm excited to see what sort of titles they (Xbox) bring to release, besides Forza, CoD, and EA Sports. Those are their "wide market" appeal games, the games a majority of users get and use and expect yearly installments for. Hardcore gamers I think, will be reserving judgement until more details about the new Xbox LIVE service, more hardcore games are released, and third-party examinations of the console side-by-side with the PS4 go. After all, I'd hate to jump the gun or make snap judgments on a single press event.

    That'd be silly.

  4. I can engage targets successfully at up to 400m without long range optics (though they do help a lot). I suppose it depends on how used to shooting things that aren't right next to you. I imagine if you're used to playing CoD, BF3, or Counter Strike, you'll find shooting in ArmA much more difficult. Big thing is awareness. Your awareness of your surroundings comes a lot more into play. A nice computer with a solid GPU wouldn't hurt either. >_>

  5. a note on the name in game credits, it says first 500 to purchase. I would -highly- expect that 500 has already been met.

DLC says "If any, does not apply to standalone expansions or sequels" The standalone expansions part is whats shitty about it. Wasnt arrowhead standalone?

@Agares: yes the UI is less cumbersome. That doesnt mean the game is watered-down in terms of need to know controls, realism, ect. Something that most gamers dont want to deal with. Especially the travel-time involved in arma.

Im fully planning on getting AIII, but I have no expectation for its playerbase to be huge.

Mister Party-pooper poops on all my parties.

I digress however, if it keeps the annoying CoD kids (read: the annoying kids who play CoD and think it's the be all of FPS gaming) out of my game, I'm pleased as Ffffin' punch and I'd not want them to water down anything. It's ArmA, for heaven's sake. It'll still have a large enough player base to make it worthwhile, especially since the exposure the game has gotten lately through Steam and DayZ alone have piqued a lot of interest, plus all the favorable press for it's release. I'm a tad worried some players will be hype-fags but who knows, maybe they'll actually stick around once they see what it has to offer in terms of challenge and scale.

  6. Also, for those naysayers, they've been overhauling the interface so it's less cumbersome and it'll be running on Steam only.

Alpha access can be granted through invite or by buying an early access package. There's varying levels of access to the Alpha depending on what you're willing to pay.

    =========================================

Just a quick rundown in USD:

Alpha Lite: - Free, Invite Only, only lets you participate in the early alpha with no multiplayer or early mod access (ACE3 I'm sure is underway as we speak, given how snuggly close its dev team, ShackTac and BI seem to be).

Alpha: - Approx 30$ USD, Is pretty much just access to the alpha, beta, and full game in that order.  You also get three alpha invites. Allows multiplayer and mod access in Alpha stage.

Alpha Digital Deluxe Edition: - 50$ USD, same as above, but with extra doodads like maps, soundtrack, and other fun stuff.

Alpha Supporter: - 92$ USD, same as above with more goodies involved. You get Arma X, All the future DLC, a special identifying forum's badge, and your name in the game's credits.

  7. Just a general reminder: Right now, we need people to ask themselves "What can I do to make this work?" and "How can I help this function?". The changes are coming, but only if we all keep focused on the goal of a meaningful and full transition, which requires the efforts of everyone from top to bottom. It's not the dissent or an opinion is not welcome, but there's an appropriate way to approach the issue. One that doesn't get you thrown down a flight of stairs and capped in the head for treason. At least, that's what I'd do if I was allowed to...
