  1. I was, honestly, thinking this was going to be another resignation. Then I saw it was by Inoue, and the probability of that went to null.
  2. I own Windows 8. I also was in the consumer review stage. Microsoft really did work very hard to make applications that were on Windows 7 work the same with Windows 8. During the consumer review, it was a bit hard to get things working right. However, given time, I came back to the OS on release. I had very, very few issues with compatibility or use. The new start menu? It's overly infamous. Most of the time, you do not even interact with it; if you /really/ don't want to interact with it, shortcuts+explorer+folders will work fine. That said, if you do use the Start Menu, simply type the program in that you want to run; it doesn't take forever to search for things (like Windows XP, Vista, 7) and pops things up pretty fast. I have to say, though, there are issues with joysticks/gamepads and Planetside 2. If you don't use either or those, it's fine. Overall, the OS is great. People who whine and cry about the start menu never gave the OS a chance; never explored the other options. The OS makes much better use of RAM, at least in my exprience. My only true grief (and it is of varying importance) is the down-loader Microsoft supplies to download Windows 8. The down-loader only downloads one of either 32 bit or 64 bit OSes, depending on what you currently have on your computer. I had a terrible time finding a 64-bit ISO torrent (I eventually just went to Pirate Bay -- I checked the checksums of the files and things were A-OK, exactly the same as a direct-download.)
  3. I remember when you first joined. Those were the days! p.s., you left two days prior to your second straight year.
  4. Thread closed, selection made. I will be contacting who I chose shortly. I selected them out of need for the card, while also comparing them to the card they have now. Thanks for letting me do this little gift, guys.
  5. To answer questions relating to it's PCI compatibility: It is a PCI Express 2.1 x16 card. However, it is back-compatible with 2.0 x16 interfaces.
  6. Also, here is some further explanation on why I do not want to send it out of country (or, at least, not 100% gung-ho-I'll-do-it!) Three or so years ago, I was helping my Mother sell items on eBay; I learned quite a bit about shipping during that time. We sent most of our items within the United States, via USPS (a government funded & ran postal company and one that I recommend, extremely.) That being said, they had these things called "flat-rate boxes." If you're in the USA, you probably have heard or used them. Why? They're very a simple, no-fuss shipping solution for items under 75 lb. (or 34 kg.) If it fits in one of their specially marked boxes, it ships; usually for under five dollars USD -- back then, at least. No other shipping solution has this simplicity or undercutting-price. It simply is not possible for a private sector company to do this. It is also simply not possible to do this internationally. If I am to ship a 3.3 lb GPU internationally via USPS, it would cost $47.95. This is without insurance. If I were to add insurance to the parcel, I'd add at least $60. This would make shipping the card to you $107.95. Why would I put such high insurance on it? To cover the cost of shipping and to pretty much guarantee you don't get a messed up card. I also have to fill out Customs Forms for this thing to happen. That said, I have shipped to Brazil, Great Britain, Canada and (I think) Ireland. If my memory serves me right, I ended up refunding the Brazilian resident their money (about $150, for the item, not shipping) due to the fact it didn't make it to them in over four weeks. That said, they did eventually receive it -- in six weeks time. Great Britain only took a week, Canada five days, and Ireland was also a week (I imagined it would be longer for them, if you consider the IRA. ;) ) As more than likely I would be sending it to South America if I were to ship internationally, I warn you; it may take until after Christmas to arrive. I am also unsure as to the route it will take to get to you -- I do not know if it will be by ship or plane. Plane, obviously, would be preferred. This all being said, I will gladly select someone out of country; I will not, however, enjoy the process involved in sending it, hence why I have to have you fit the bill.
  7. Hi. I'm your friendly neighborhood Hollow man. I recently bought a couple new GPUs - two, nVidia 550 Ti, 2 GB VRAM, cards. They should be arriving today. This will (if the new ones are not DOA) make my current GPU obsolete. I've been asking those that I'm close with if they need a graphics card -- most of them have laptops or simply do not need it -- but to no avail. So, I've decided I'll give some lucky guy or gal in Ordo my old GPU -- sorta like a Christmas Gift, but available to those that need it or are tight on cash. That being said, now for the technical specifications of the card: ---------------------------------- 03 - Video Adapter ---------------------------------- 0301 - Card Name : ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series 0302 - Manufacturer : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 0303 - Chip Type : AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x6898) 0304 - DAC Type : Internal DAC(400MHz) 0305 - Device Key : Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6898&SUBSYS_0B001002&REV_00 0306 - Display Memory : 4095 MB 0307 - AdapterRAM : 1.00 GB 0308 - Current Mode : 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz) 0309 - Monitor Name : Acer H233H 0310 - Driver Name : aticfx64.dll,aticfx64.dll,aticfx64.dll,aticfx32,aticfx32,aticfx32,atiumd64.dll,atidxx64.dll,atidxx64.dll,atiumdag,atidxx32,atidxx32,atiumdva,atiumd6a.cap,atitmm64.dll 0311 - Driver Version : 8.17.0010.1151 0312 - Driver Language : English 0313 - DDI Version : 11 0314 - Driver Model : WDDM 1.2 0315 - Driver Beta : False 0316 - Driver Debug : False 0317 - Driver Date : 10/18/2012 01:52:06 0318 - Driver Size : 1120768 0319 - VDD : n/a 0320 - Mini VDD : n/a 0321 - Mini VDD Date : n/a 0322 - Mini VDD Size : 0 0323 - Device Identifier : {D7B71EE2-2BD8-11CF-CD77-0A2BBEC2C535} 0324 - Vendor ID : 0x1002 0325 - Device ID : 0x6898 0326 - SubSys ID : 0x0B001002 0327 - Revision ID : 0x0000 0328 - Driver Strong Name : oem34.inf:cb0ae41415499e4d:ati2mtag_Evergreen:9.2.0.0:pci\ven_1002&dev_6898 0329 - Rank Of Driver : 00E02001 0330 - Video Accel : ModeMPEG2_A ModeMPEG2_C 0331 - Deinterlace Caps : {6E8329FF-B642-418B-BCF0-BCB6591E255F}: Format(In/Out)=(YUY2,YUY2) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,1) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_PixelAdaptive {335AA36E-7884-43A4-9C91-7F87FAF3E37E}: Format(In/Out)=(YUY2,YUY2) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_BOBVerticalStretch {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(YUY2,YUY2) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY {6E8329FF-B642-418B-BCF0-BCB6591E255F}: Format(In/Out)=(UYVY,UYVY) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,1) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_PixelAdaptive {335AA36E-7884-43A4-9C91-7F87FAF3E37E}: Format(In/Out)=(UYVY,UYVY) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_BOBVerticalStretch {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(UYVY,UYVY) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(YV12,0x32315659) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {3C5323C1-6FB7-44F5-9081-056BF2EE449D}: Format(In/Out)=(NV12,0x3231564e) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,2) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_PixelAdaptive {552C0DAD-CCBC-420B-83C8-74943CF9F1A6}: Format(In/Out)=(NV12,0x3231564e) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,2) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_PixelAdaptive {6E8329FF-B642-418B-BCF0-BCB6591E255F}: Format(In/Out)=(NV12,0x3231564e) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,1) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_PixelAdaptive {335AA36E-7884-43A4-9C91-7F87FAF3E37E}: Format(In/Out)=(NV12,0x3231564e) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY DeinterlaceTech_BOBVerticalStretch {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(NV12,0x3231564e) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps=VideoProcess_YUV2RGB VideoProcess_StretchX VideoProcess_StretchY {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(IMC1,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(IMC2,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(IMC3,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(IMC4,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(S340,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= {5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B}: Format(In/Out)=(S342,UNKNOWN) Frames(Prev/Fwd/Back)=(0,0,0) Caps= 0332 - D3D9 Overlay : Not Supported 0333 - DXVA-HD : Not Supported 0334 - DDraw Status : Enabled 0335 - D3D Status : Enabled 0336 - AGP Status : Enabled 0337 - Notes : No problems found. 0338 - OpenGL : 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247) Now, if you've talked or played a game with me before, you've probably heard (maybe even experienced) a crash that I've gotten on my PC. Allow me to give you clear information about this crash and how I was wrong to believe it was in regards to my GPU: first, in case you missed what I just said, it was not the GPU. It was the CPU. In my BIOS, I had automatic overclocking enabled. This overclocking would step up and down the processor's Ghz as programs demanded it. In doing this, it made the computer in it's entirety unstable and prone to crashing when a resource demanding game became either more or less demanding due to the load on the CPU -- so it'd crash. Now that that's over, I have a few limitations on where I will send my GPU -- firstly, I do not want to send it overseas. I'm not being mean here, but to send something cross country from the United States is pretty dang hard and very risky -- the package may never make it or be heavily damaged upon arrival, let alone the cost it would be to actually send it in the first place. If I do select someone from overseas, however, you will be paying the bill for shipment. I also want a credible reason as to why you want the GPU. If you're intending to just take my gift and sell it, sorry, go away, this isn't for you. However, you can do whatever you want with the GPU so long as it isn't for direct financial gain. Give it to another friend in need, your little brother, your Mother or give it to a homeless guy so he can buy something; I don't care! Just don't sell it. Leave me a message either in this thread or via forum PM. I will review the messages I receive and then make my selection on Saturday, December 1st. Happy holidays, guys.
  8. Anomaly: Probably be killed by a nearby band of marauders as I attempt to make my way to the Amish in Penn; they'd know what the Ffff to do, probably, as they don't use a lot of advanced tech anyways... Government: Enlist in a nearby warring faction. Time: Probably starve or eat toxic wildlife on accident. Virus: Kill myself. I wouldn't want to kill my friends and family after they become infected. War: Turncoat or go into hiding. It's hard to choose. Weather: Considering I'm more in the Northern hemisphere and I'm inland, I'd probably freeze to death. We all can't be heroes.

  10. itttttt larry is really just an extension of hollow's greatness
  11. Those headlights freeze like no Ffffing tomorrow. You'd be better off leaving them in the "up" position for the entire winter; unless, of course, you have about 40 feet of extension and a blow drier on hand.
  12. Moved to Literature. I do not see the relevancy to OID.

  15. Allow me to illustrate just how bad of an idea it is to buy a labtop, with the intent of keeping it upgraded in the future. Okay, that's a big image! Let's get a better idea of what we're looking at. Please note that to upgrade laptops, you gotta take it apart. If you want to replace fundamental parts (HDD, the monitor, CD/DVD drive, GPU (although these are optional, in most cases)) you have to take it apart completely. You also have to make sure you're properly handling the laptop; static shock can kill electronics. By the way, I know, RAM is fundamental; it's just a lot easier to change than those listed above. Now, go find a tower-PC. Make the front (the side that has the CD-Drive,) point towards you. On the left hand side, you can find screws on the back of the computer (this wording is weird, it's kinda hard to explain...) Unscrew these screws (usually two or three.) Now, you can easily slide the side off; now you're looking at the inside of your computer, where you can easily adjust core components with little-to-no hassle. -- tl;dr Do not try to work on your laptop. Buy a tower-PC.
