  1. Inside Man with Denzel Washington.. Interesting movie.

  2. Incredible Mr. Bleac. For those interested in the tactics at Waterloo, and some of the troop movements. http://en.wikipedia....leonic_strategy (yes wiki, i know) still something can be gleaned by those interested. One lesson learned is that Nappoleans enemies apparently studied his methods by this time, and then applied them effectively to his demise. (he initially attempted to cross the anglo-allies supply lines via indirect approach to dislocate their forces, only to have the Prussians attack with their own movement to the french rear.) Tactics don't change much. Application of tactics change drastically due to technology improvements, land features, medium they are engaged in(ie land, water, air etc.) ~The true military genius, after planning, and observing the battle can visualize the exact pressure points, that will force the enemy to do what he doesn't want to, and know where his own win's and losses will occur.
  3. Two issues here and they should both be given weight. 1) Winning- "I wouldn't give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed." George S. Patton. 2) Ensuring that in SL there are enough combatants around that still want to play with you. Hence all the ROE's, sim rules, banned weapons etc.. Not saying we're perfect on this, but a lot of getting this correct is just growing and learning. Improvements are always important to consider. Their can be over-analysis though as well. For example in Morgan Straits(Napoleanic era) some scripters are proponents of making the guns totally innacurate with 20 sec reload, etc, etc. The problem is that SL itself can become the dictator of what really happens. The folks that went this extreme ended up losing their members and buyers to more fun, less rules oriented requirement. The point is that too strict adherence to any course of action can result also in folks simply going elsewhere to get their Rx of mayhem in. (not against fairness here, just over-analyzing and over-implementing complications that take away from the fun.) I'd say that as long as both sides of the argument are clearly seen then one obvious metric to go off is the percentage of the military community that still plays with us and adjust accordingly. We want the maximum opportunities available to show our dominance in..:) So if suddenly we start getting blockaded it would be a pretty clear sign something needs to change, and we need to re-check our compass. As always the golden rule appears to fit well. Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.
  4. Interesting point of view.. i have been on the other side fighting a group like you describe here, fighting said group with inferior weapons (weapons they sold with higher scripting..lag inducing excessive scripts placed in obscure prims of their weapons that responded very poorly when being fired, having longer reload times, etc.) and a seemingly different set of rules they considered themselves to play by. We stuck it out, did our duty, and made do with what we had. Never once did we back down even after losing sometimes pretty soundly. We found a weapons scripter to make our own weapons, trained in better tactics, and turned around and knocked them out of the park.. They have since left that particular set of sims due to that loss and never fought anymore there as a group. The weapons maker they had has been rendered obsolete, and from what i've seen has no shops anywhere in those sims. Apparently the destruction of their ego was a little more than they could handle. I do not know. I could care less. Their former victories ring very hollow. For us it was very satisfying. That group stirred up drama wherever it went with accusations like what you have discussed following them around continually. So far i have not ever experienced this kind of drama in Ordo from other groups, nor have i heard any such accusations from other militaries when being at places such as New Jessie in full Ordo gear. Nor have i ever heard it from random people i meet with enemy groups listed in their profile. In pointing to Ordo's skill, I think it's telling when Ordo can attack itself during the stress tests and capture/hold all 3 points, and a similar sized raid team from another sim is unable to. On defences, I've seen Ordo actually scale back our weapons to mellee and muskets not really to be sporting, but it's sort of depressing killing the lonewolfer the same way who travels the same route 40x's in a row. So i disagree. Good luck finding the group you think lives up to that standard. At some point this is WAR. If the US were to go up against its enemies with the mindset you proposed we would still have been there. Sorry guys you only get camels and clubs. Lol
  5. Exodus crashed on me, and for some wacked out reason can't get it to boot up again.. oh yah that was when i was OIC.. >:|

    1. Drasamax Python

      Drasamax Python

Exodus runs better than any other V2/V3 Viewer I use. But V1 i still best for me. as I don't loose about 10 FPS as I do on V2/V3 >:[

It turned out to be a network problem. Other than random lag spikes which seem to be pretty common on v2 and firestorm. I haven't had many other problems with Exodus. And it is great for medic'ing.

  6. Congrats! Had a buddy get it 10 yrs ago. His eyes are doing great. He didn't get the laser implant option though, probably due to the slight increase in cost. Apparently there's a cross-hairs option that projects a heads up display on the retina. This can be useful for tank commanders and Astra personell, and comes in at a slightly cheaper rate.
  7. Ordo has opened my eyes to military structure, given a place to apply military tactics in a new and changing environment, helped immensely in understanding business and organizational structures, there's a plentiful supply of fur.. Ordo has provided a structure that has been very succesful among sl groups based on Leadership, Justice, Excitement, and a sense of brotherhood in dealing with stressfull (albeit simulated) battle situations. Where in RL can you be exposed and take part at this level without actually being in the real thing? That is why i have a great respect for Titan, the Imperator, Ordo, and what this group and organization is.
  8. On another tangent the North Vietnamese General was brilliant in tactics. He knew he could not compete with American Air Power, So the goal was to bring his ground (no pun intended) forces as close to the American military as possible via the tunnels, via deception. Whatever it took to neutralize the US air power.
  9. As far as Authority, when Aryte was in battle under a raid leader, for a raid i was in, he even took orders from this much lower ranking raid leader... LOL so this person complaining about authority was probably one of those sort full of subconscious resentment, and as a result can't be pleased with any level of authority in an organization. Authority is actually necessary to ensure the integrity and orderly growth of an organization. Resentment is a very difficult thing to overcome. Resentment is usually the root in some random reason as to why someone will not follow instructions. Rooting out resentment in ones self will free them up to offer ideas and then accept the decision of the authority in place should it come to that. Resentment results in pride, unnecessary ego, and generally being an unpleasant person to be around. Resentment could come from anything.. i was only allowed wheaties for breakfast growing up therefore i will never take orders from anyone without finding some reason as to why they should be disobeyed. -my advice is find out why you have resentment, root it out, and get on with your life. All ordo are champions not resent filled embittered folk. These sort of people think.. "if only i were in such and such a position, i'd do things so much better".. I've personally placed such people in a position where they could do anything they wanted, and they pretty much failed. I've seen this attitude in myself, it's a part of growing up. Get over yourself, do what it takes to succeed and enjoy life. Authority does not mean that one person has ALL the answers. As long as the vision is the same, more brains working on a problem will usually ensure a complete solution. In addition capacity to answer questions is also improved. Say there are 20 problems to address. 1 person can certainly answer them all But 5 people with the same vision and unity of spirit can answer 20 questions in 1/4 the time. Heh heh, this topic was so long ago i doubt anyone will read this answer. But it's almost medicinal replying to it. LOL
  10. he that rules his spirit is better than he that conquers a city.

  11. Russian leadership is very much based on popularity. Stalin wanted Zhukov to beat back the Germans but didn't like Zhukov's popularity. Considering the Germans had just been incredibly brutal to the Russians, when Zhukov became the tool of retribution against the Germans, those suffering from the German invasion would obviously see him as their savior.. Zhukovs popularity increased tremendously, thence becoming a threat to Stalin.- a vicious cycle indeed. \ ~master of the obvious.. thank you thank you. As far as politics, that's best left to the authorities. The individual has to place 'What works' above ones' self. That's the great thing about war. Only what works succeeds. Failure is final.
  12. One of Napoleans Strengths was used against him when he invaded Russia. Napoleans army was the best at foraging for supplies. This allowed him to have much smaller logistical supply lines than other militaries, and move much quicker. But when he invaded Russia, it was pretty much his downfall and the russians operated a scorched earth policy where they burned everything as they retreated... Hitler also had logistical problems in Russia because he believed the war would be over before the Russian General Winter could influence the outcome and his men were not equipped with winter gear. Plenty of lessons there on ego, cutting off the enemies source of supplies. If i recall correctly Scipio first invaded Portugal/Spain in an effort to undercut Hannibals supply line (Hannibal had established his supply lines through spain and then continued on over into Italy. Scipio then attacked Carthage and defeated their military, which forced Hannibal to leave Italy and defend Carthage, where he had to scramble in some untenable situations, and then suffered defeat against Scipio's Brilliant command using strategies he may well have learned from Hannibal. Best defense is a good offense. Guard your lines of travel. I haven't read about Trajan or Hadrian yet.. Currently i'm making my way through J.F.C. Fullers military history. Which has covered Alexander the Great, (took on 1million with 40K and won.. at the age of about 32.. Aryte still has time. Heh heh.) along with several of the great roman generals, Macedonians, Greeks. Interesting reading. I'll try to look up more info on General Zhukov.
  13. For all you military history buffs out there. Just wondering who some of your favorite Great Military Leaders are and what books to read on them out there. Also if there were any in particular individuals that seemed more SL relevant than others. I haven't done much reading of russian leaders yet so that would be very interesting. I've read Vegetius, -very applicable to the ORDO setup.
  14. back to school.. just spent 5 hours painting, cuz my worker got taken back to jail.. *facepalms..

  15. Make war not love, Bullets are much less dangerous. lol
