Money you wish you had back

Recommended Posts

List video games you've recentley bought that turned out to be a bust, can be used as a place to let loose your rage... and simply to warn others not to buy something if you feel it's not worth the pricetag

SHOGUN 2: Total war

Price: $49.99 USD

Reason: this is a great game, granted I wish I had waited a week or two to buy it since it went on sale for 33% off the other day, Could have saved over $15. Game's still full of bugs that crash the game, and the devs havent made any attempt at fixing them, they're more concerned with releasing DLC to fill their pockets with. other than that Shogun 2 is a good RTS.

BRINK

Price: $49.99 USD

Reason: The game advertises as being a revolutionary future of shooters, I find the game plays like Counter strike meets TF2, And the game is too much bark and not enough bite, in other words it says it has this and that, when it really doesnt. Some people enjoy it, but I could have used that 50 bucks for something else :(

APB Reloaded

Price: Game is free but other stuff can be bought (Spent $60)

Reason: Im an idiot, Im an idiot for spending money on this "Gamersfirst" company, I'm an idiot for giving APB a second chance, some things should have remained dead

it's just a big scam that aims to drain the money out of dumb little kids who play MMOs. And the stuff I bought for the game, "Premium mode" which claims to give you a "money boost" but it's so minimal it's barley noticable, Spent money on unlocking guns early, but wait! you only get to keep them for 30 days, and then you have to buy it again with real money. the guns that are lifetime keeps are junk, they're overpriced garbage with no other purpose than attracting idiots with daddy's credit card, who think they can unlock something early by paying for it, I bought a gun that USED To be a beast in the original game, but they made every aspect of it worse, and slapped a pricetag on it..... also even if you buy a gun with ingame money *IE money you made in the game and did not spend any real currencey* you only get to keep the gun for 10 days.

I'm not even going to bother explaining how poorly the game plays, It's garbage, the only improvement is there is now the ability of playing it for free. before you had to pay a monthly fee. I should have known better. APB is nothing but World of warcraft for gangster wannabes. it may have a different theme but the scams are the same.

HOMEFRONT

Price: $49.99 USD

Reason: Rented it on xbox to try it out, it seemed ok, bought it on PC, Turned out that the only good stuff was the first level or two that I played on the xbox. then I found out the campaign is only 7 levels long, and a complete ripoff of freedom fighters. and the multiplayer is a complete clone of Call of duty and Bad company.

Left 4 Dead 2;

Price: $49.99

An expansion pack, basically. The addition of a few new zeds and weapons does not make it a new game. The new levels are also more or less derivatives of one another, and the only campaign that was genuinely interesting was Hard Rain and its random thunderstorms.

Fallout: New Vegas;

Price: $49.99

A great game, but unstable as hell. For almost eight months I could not play it at all because of a conflict a patch created with my motherboard / video card, and their support's response was more or less 'we already have your money, so it's not a pressing issue'. Now that it's patched, it's fun, but still notoriously unstable - I'm quicksaving literally at each hill top.

Pariah;

Price: $49.99

An older FPS I bought when I was on a TimeSplitters bend - it had a built in map-editor and had customizable weapons (to an extent). It was a pretty decent game, until I got near the end where the difficulty inexplicably ramped up and became nearly unbeatable due to the constant health-degrading flamethrowers and napalm cannons combined with a dire shortage of medkits (and instantly respawning endless hordes of bad guys that put MW to shame). If it had been priced like the B Game it was I probably wouldn't have it on this list though.

X-COM Apocalypse (Steam version);

Price: $4.99

Suffice to say, I would've rather have spent it on the original UFO Defense - the game I grew up with as a kid. ;[

Turning Point: Fall of libity

brought this day one completed it in two hours took it back the next day because it was an over hiped pice of rubish got less then half back.

though i disagree with you on homefront its a good game even though its short it has a great story and the DLC's have good promise and the multiplayer is different from both call of duty and bad company.

APB I was glad finally moved to a F2P model, however the free content was severely limited by overall level to unlock things per contact. They rebalanced all the weapons, so anyone who played the original won't like it initially and think the TTK is too low on everything, or their favorite gun isn't as good, blah blah blah. However, the only real problem with current APB: Reloaded is their shit servers. That, or whatever networking they could possibly be using that gives me 120-250 ping on a server in the same county where I live. And since you can die just as easily in lost packets rather than one on one combat, it does make the difference.

Brink is alright, and it was never hyped all that bad to make it seem any more revolutionary than it was. The classes themselves are a bit sparse, with singular goals, however. The only thing to really not like is movement speed, which was probably hindered by their free-running mechanic that also is terrible from the first person perspective. The game probably would've been considerably better if it was just third person in the first place so their silly free-running animations weren't to waste, and movement speed wouldn't seem so slow. Stats on weapons were also pretty silly and nonsensical, and character customization was far more limited than what was let on. It's not so much that you have to unlock the majority of items, but the cliche face options go from 'okay' to 'downright silly' Although I do love how you can change the voice, at least.

Of games that were a waste of my money:

Breach: $20

Indie devs needs to get on the ball with shooters because this didn't cut it. Might have had some new mechanics to them, but there was nothing to look forward to, and the basis for the engine had no more depth than the original Red Faction running on Havok/Geomod. A nice idea, executed poorly all around.

Call of Duty: Black Ops: $60

Sadly, lived up to the joking statements by the Bulletstorm team! Anyone who played Duty Calls would just laugh through most of this game because of the ridiculous number of cut scenes and lack of actually... PLAYING the game. Multiplayer was a nice improvement, but that couldn't even constitute a DLC for the previous Modern Warfare 2

Super Mario Galaxy: Paid 50 bucks and maybe spent 20 hours total playing it. Just didn't keep my attention at all.

XBOX and Halo 3: Played a lot of the game but never got anything else for the system cause I moved on to PC shortly afterwards.

I remember playing that on a console. an interesting story idea but they made the game play like shit

And Cyphre, I hear you on the shit servers. I was trying to play with Arokh the other day and it either lagged at the worst possible time "Usually in a gun fight or car chase". or you'd be sitting at "Connecting to server" for 20 minutes only to get a LOLNO Failed to connect message.

Prototype for Xbox360 bought it the 2nd day it was released $60, beat it on normal the 2nd hour I had it.

Prototype was like going to a vietnamese restaurant and asking for spahgetti. So much wrong with it. Minigames and Acheievements used as major filler instead of a minor break away. I can be spotted running up a skyscraper as an old woman and be ok, but the second I pick up a trashbag everyone flips the fuck out.

Cabelas Big Game Hunter 2010 Xbox 360

This had to be the dumbest goddamn game I ever played since jumping off the roof of a house with a hefty bag. I can appreciate the occasional hunting game when thats what it is, but this isnt. Walk in a linear fashion, find the animal via a BLACK OPS SATELITE GPS marker...you heard me. You shoot it and its LOL U MAD HUNTER DUDE WITH SKILLS as your buddys back at Delta Force Hunting Squad Team 6 HeadQuaters compliment you on that totally tough search of yours. Minigames include the manhattan zoo releasing all the small woodland critters they had out into the open and you unloading all your weapons on suddenly 500 birds, foxes and jackrabbits that suddenly infest the area. This was the equivalent of shooting animals under an animal feeder, shit sucked, so I tossed it.

High Impact Paintball PC (I bought it as a kid way back)

This sucked because it was paintball. I havent a clue why I decided id rather shoot someone with paintballs in a computer game than bullets. It was like wearing a condom without having sex.

Aliens Versus Predator 2 PC

It was ok, it wasent the AVP I came to know and love. tl;dr the gore and violence factor sucked, the days of bolting people to the walls, eating and slicing people to parts or grenading someone to chunks in a giant room painting bloodfest were over. Sure AVP3 is gorey, but I enjoyed painting walls with peoples torso's. Guess im the only one excited over that.

Joint Ops PC

It was like paying for Second life combat except prettier, a little bit better worked. Bout it. Could legitimately turn off vegitation as a graphical option and shoot across the entire map. That alone pretty much snuffed the game.

Spore PC

If I turned on full player created content which was the only real fun element for me, I was usually stuck combating and socializing with dick monsters, dick cities, and dick ships.

You can get the original AvP on Steam for $5. I STILL enjoy that game.

Savage:

I was fooled into thinking this was a fun game (and it was) when I played it at a local LAN Joint with buddies. Little did I know it was 100% online skirmish-only with maps that turned into ghost towns often.

Battle Field 1942:

Or as it should be properly called: "Spawn Camp 1942" EA shows us its colors in "Take Day of Defeat, make it worse and push it like a Supersize Burger."

But the worst, hands down worst game I wish I could get a refund for...

Nuff' Said...

ooooh yeah thats right, its multiplayer like reworked to run with steam n' all? or is it moreso just worth it to stick with single player? (which is cool, even had fun with skirmish)

Multiplayer is essentially worked in with steam. Usually if you create a server, people will seem to flood in, since nobody seems to enjoy having their own Coop server.

Guild Wars: Nightfall (Special Edition) - 70€

¿20 levels? For the love of god. Ridiculous, and nothing new. I gave it to a friend.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition - 10€

Yeah, new graphics, and stuff like that, but it's the old Monkey Island, I'd prefer a new story. I lost it.

Red Orchestra - 20€

I love it, it's my favorite game, but I purchased it too late, there are just 3 or 4 servers.

Now I just download the games from bit torrent, I'm a rebel.

I agree with the Guild Wars thing. I didn't even OWN the game and I leveled an Assassin to 15 on my friend's account. In like 3 days. Guild Wars 2 is gonna be even crazier.

Hellgate: London - $20.00 at Best Buy

This game was fun for a while, but due to the lack of players and people willing to pay monthly for only a minor bonus to being a free player, the game died out pretty quick. I hear a Korean company's trying to bring it back up though as a Micro transaction-based game.

Battlefield 2142 - $30.00 at Wal-Mart a few months after release

I was addicted to this for a while when it came out, but after a while a TON of newer, more refined games began to emerge, and I lost interest. Now if you try to play this again, prepare to just get manhandled, since EA / DICE have basically abandoned this piece.

Starfox: Assault - Nintendo Gamecube, rented at Blockbuster

Rented it, played it, beat it in an hour and a half. Returned it the next day.

Resident Evil: Outbreak - $30, included in a 3-pack with Code Veronica X and RE4 for Playstation 2

This game sucked. Couldn't even make it past the first scene due to not knowing where the hell ANYTHING was. It was like an animated character walking around in a 3D Mood Painting.

Star Trek Online - $14.95 monthly, and optional $50 buy at stores

Been waiting for this game since 2008, and after it came out, I was given about 60-90 days of free gametime. Got to Rear Admiral 5 in 15 days, then floated around space for another 30 trying to raid, or impress people at the fact that I could out-damage max-tiered Escort ships with Tier 3-4 cruisers.

Anything owned or operated by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE).

They're all a bunch of Money-grubbing whores. Ain't paying a dime for anything they have anymore. Spent $20 for an Everquest 2 "Collector's Edition" box with every expansion pack, 60 days of time, and 500 Station Cash, only to have them pump out another expansion pack 25 days into my gameplay, asking for another $40 for it.

This is why I torrent every game I want. If it's single-player, I torrent it and leave it as is. If it's multiplayer and I enjoy the singleplayer I'll buy it such as BC2.

The only exception was Fallout 3 which I loved so much I decided to purchase it.

Games like Star Wars Galaxies I wish I could get my money back. I bought it and didn't pay attention to the "you have to pay extra to actually play! :D".

Runescape. It was awesome back in 2005-2006. Now it just sucks and that $60 I spent in monthly fees would do a lot of good right now.
