usually an AMD person but since itll be more for work than play I think the stability of intel/nvidia would be fine.

Currently have HDRadeon6570 

Nothing -too- off brand for memory ect. I dont wanna get it for cheap only for it to die in a few weeks :P


Also, I think I can salvage my power supply, so dont include that. 
 

• i7 Intel (I use AMD, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about i7, Achtai's next compy will probably have one)
• Geforce GTX 6?? Ti? something
• Corsair for your memory
• Corsair H80 self contained water cooler
• Hard Drive?

• Whatever Motherboard you like > $150 should do well enough (I use MSI and avoid Asus myself)

I've upped mine to Win8 also, it does still have some issues, but it's smoother and for once my OS demands less resources than my other programs.

And yeah Windows 8 overall is great~ I don't get the hate for it. Solid as hell. The only thing I hate is Xbox Music.

I run a pretty old Acer Aspire 5740G. The only difference I have to the stock laptop is some extra RAM, and it runs all my games fine.

Also make damm sure the memory you are getting has been tested and proved as working with the motherboard. Search the support forums for the motherboard and the memory brand.

Also a good stable power supply is key to a stable computer, it not only needs to be able to deliver enough W it also needs to be stable. A high amount of W and a high price card does not always mean its a good PSU either.

32Gb (8x 4gb) g-skill ram DDR3-1600

EVGA Nvidia 670 2GB (Had a 1gb, broke, got a 2gb back, bigger performance difference then I imagined O.o)

Creative XFI Platinum PCI (With a powered front bay for headset, also tried PCI-E variant but it was horrible with unpowered bay, lots of static)

1x 256GB Crucial M4 SSD for Windows

2x 512GB Crucial M4 SSD for games / stuff that needs high speed / low access time

1x 2TB WD RE4 disk for downloads.

PSU ... not sure .. I think it was an 800W A-Brand, forgot which.

Case is a Koolance PC4-1036BK which is an oldie with liquid cooling. This is the 3rd (and probably last) build in this case.

CPU is liquid cooled with lots of liquid (initially I had ram / chipset liquid cooled as well, dropped this in favor of flexibility and a lot less headaches, but there's still somewhere between 500ml to 1 litre of liquid in the system with 2 tanks)

why would you have an entire 256 for windows? You could easily do that on a 64/128 and just use the 512 for programs and regular HDD for data storage / stuff that writes a lot.

 

edit: I got windows 8 because frankly its gotten good reviews in both gaming and general computing communities. Its also got pretty good benchmarking. I figure worst case it has a classic-like theme you can choose from and Ill just roll with that.

Hey, that's okay! We'll be around. The upgrade looks good. How old is your current HD? I'd suggest looking at getting a backup (just in case) and getting a new one in the near future depending on age. While HDs can last quite a while (depending on the company and quality), it's always nice to have a backup and a smooth transition from one to the next.

This HD is only a year old. I got it to replace a fried 500GB from an offbrand [HUGE MISTAKE!]. Right now I'm using a netbook 250GB hard drive to backup my music, documents, and the such, BUT I want to actually get a Solid State- something around 128GB maybe :D
