Computer Builds: Specs, Consoles & Suggestions

Recommended Posts

usually an AMD person but since itll be more for work than play I think the stability of intel/nvidia would be fine.

Currently have HDRadeon6570

Nothing -too- off brand for memory ect. I dont wanna get it for cheap only for it to die in a few weeks :P

Also, I think I can salvage my power supply, so dont include that.

  • i7 Intel (I use AMD, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about i7, Achtai's next compy will probably have one)
  • Geforce GTX 6?? Ti? something
  • Corsair for your memory
  • Corsair H80 self contained water cooler
  • Hard Drive?
  • Opticals?
  • Whatever Motherboard you like > $150 should do well enough (I use MSI and avoid Asus myself)
  • I have a Corsair case that 'won' my cooling capability spreadsheet math.

PROCESSOR

2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3820 (10M Cache, Overclocked up to 4.1 GHz)

OPERATING SYSTEM

Windows 8, 64-bit, English

MEMORY

16GB (4 X 4GB) Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz

VIDEO CARD

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680 2GB GDDR5

HARD DRIVE

500GB SS Hybrid MAIN + 1TB 7200RPM Storage

Ordered it today. Should recieve by end of next week. I got a pre-built instead of myself simply because it will allow me to finance it instead of buy it out-right. Itll cost me more in the end but it allows me to have it sooner than later, keep savings in my savings, and will allow me to work faster all around :D

(moved your post to the correct thread, should be able to just look at previous posts. Your's isn't all bad, a lot of us are gamers and geeks so we prioritize it. It's all about what you do with it, or what you need it for in your life.)

I've upped mine to Win8 also, it does still have some issues, but it's smoother and for once my OS demands less resources than my other programs.

I KEEP DOING THAT MAKE A NEW POST THING. ~Another~ apology....why do I never use search........time to start. You're so nice~ Thank you for not banning me and stuffs like I most likely deserve lol

And yeah Windows 8 overall is great~ I don't get the hate for it. Solid as hell. The only thing I hate is Xbox Music.

Ill admit im completely nervous about the whole windows 8 thing.

Get Win7 instead >.>

Also make damm sure the memory you are getting has been tested and proved as working with the motherboard. Search the support forums for the motherboard and the memory brand.

Also a good stable power supply is key to a stable computer, it not only needs to be able to deliver enough W it also needs to be stable. A high amount of W and a high price card does not always mean its a good PSU either.

Here's my entry for the e-penis competition :P

This is what I have atm(from memory, built it in January 2012):

Intel I7-3960X @ 3.2Ghz (stock) tested at 5Ghz for a day with no problems.

Gigabyte X79-UD5 motherboard

32Gb (8x 4gb) g-skill ram DDR3-1600

EVGA Nvidia 670 2GB (Had a 1gb, broke, got a 2gb back, bigger performance difference then I imagined O.o)

Creative XFI Platinum PCI (With a powered front bay for headset, also tried PCI-E variant but it was horrible with unpowered bay, lots of static)

1x 256GB Crucial M4 SSD for Windows

2x 512GB Crucial M4 SSD for games / stuff that needs high speed / low access time

1x 2TB WD RE4 disk for downloads.

PSU ... not sure .. I think it was an 800W A-Brand, forgot which.

Case is a Koolance PC4-1036BK which is an oldie with liquid cooling. This is the 3rd (and probably last) build in this case.

CPU is liquid cooled with lots of liquid (initially I had ram / chipset liquid cooled as well, dropped this in favor of flexibility and a lot less headaches, but there's still somewhere between 500ml to 1 litre of liquid in the system with 2 tanks)

Logitech G19 keyboard

Saitek X52 pro hotas flight controller.

And Win7 :-)

Home server (that runs Mercury) is a:

Intel I5 2500K @3.3Ghz (stock)

8GB Ram (kingston I believe)

Some gigabyte Intel 67 Chipset board with on board graphics

3ware 9650SE sata raid controller with battery backed cache (hardware raid ftw)

cheap ass air cooled case that was big enough to house everything and had an on/off button

PSU is an old 650W Enermax

Laptop:

Custom build around 'Clevo PM170EM-barebone' and a shiny unmirrored screen

I7 3610QM

Nvidia 675 2gb (with optimus)

16Gb RAM. DDR3 1600
1x 512GB Crucial M4

750GB Hybrid drive (Seagate ? not sure)

Blue Ray writer combo drive.

Shiny color changing keyboard

Bigfoot N110 Wireless

Home 6x 2TB disk Netgear Readynas NAS. 10Tb Avail.

Pile of (old)spare parts that I still need to turn into a backup computer that include a Q9600 line cpu

So far the only thing that had problems running on my main computer was the Witcher 2 at highest settings. But was still playable.

why would you have an entire 256 for windows? You could easily do that on a 64/128 and just use the 512 for programs and regular HDD for data storage / stuff that writes a lot.

edit: I got windows 8 because frankly its gotten good reviews in both gaming and general computing communities. Its also got pretty good benchmarking. I figure worst case it has a classic-like theme you can choose from and Ill just roll with that.

I've been so inactive in this guild it makes no sense. But that's going to change when I finish this upgrade I'm planning!

I think I've commented here already, but right now I'm running

Biostar TH55 HD Mobo

Intel i3 550 at 3.2Ghz

Galaxy nVidia GTS 450 1GB GC

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz

Western Digital WDFAEX1002 1TB

on a 500W PSU

BUT I'm actually about to switch out most of these parts for:

MSI 970A-G46 Mobo

AMD FX-8320 at 3.5Ghz

MSI or Sapphire Radeon R9-270X 2GB

RAM, PSU, and Hard Drive are all staying put.

So I'm going to actually be able to handle more games that folks here play- I tried to get into PS2, but that game is brutal. The GTS 450 can't handle that damn game, at all.

I'm using a 19 inch Dell monitor that runs at 1650x1080, and a G510 Keyboard, and a CM Storm Recon mouse~

Hey, that's okay! We'll be around. The upgrade looks good. How old is your current HD? I'd suggest looking at getting a backup (just in case) and getting a new one in the near future depending on age. While HDs can last quite a while (depending on the company and quality), it's always nice to have a backup and a smooth transition from one to the next.

This HD is only a year old. I got it to replace a fried 500GB from an offbrand [HUGE MISTAKE!]. Right now I'm using a netbook 250GB hard drive to backup my music, documents, and the such, BUT I want to actually get a Solid State- something around 128GB maybe :D

Thanks though man :D
