  1. So who is still in a decent non pvp corp .. i need a new one.
  2. I hate you, for some reason reading that made me snort out the soda i was just drinking .. and i'm at work.
  3. What led to this ? Sounds fun, we can go dominate all the startrek sims...
  4. It gives a blank slot when it glitches and stops looking half way, the asking twice is related I think.
  5. Because I keep getting the occasional question about the greeting dialog in Titan which asks if you want to be lined up for OIC I decided to make an info post about how it works with a little background info. Just to clear up a common misconception first, the radar display is -not- Mercury itself. The radar is a separate system which uses Mercury to classify people and acts as its 'eyes' at the same time. Any radar system, with only minor added scripting, can be used as in game eyes for Mercury itself. Mercury is a database which responds to outside triggers like authentication requests and by evaluating all the different input channels that it gets fed. It will whine in seconds after it detects rule based events like low friendly population or a sharp increase in hostile/unknown people. The system does not reside on SL but is off-course reliant on input that it is getting from scripts on the SL grid which is where its Achilles heel is. So here is how the OIC stuff works right now: Someone enters Titan or Chronus. Person gets picked up by the radar. Radar tells mercury 'hey, look at my shiny list of people that I'm tracking!' ((<-- Sim stress and Linden updates make it break here.)) Mercury goes 'hey nice list, this meatbag is new, does it belong to the group who owns the sim, if so, what rank is it in case we need to nag it about OIC, send the proper greeting message and maybe follow it up with a question about OIC after a minute rez time waiting' If you hit yes you'll get lined up in the list. If you hit no, nothing will happen. If you hit 'Claim', it will compare your rank to the current oic, if you outrank the current one it will replace him/her. If there is none, it will give you oic. This bit is still being worked on. On the event that someone marked as OIC or possible OIC leaves the sims they are marked for, it will wait 3 minutes before removing the person and possibly wanting to declare a new OIC on its own if the person was the OIC. Just to catch crashes and the likes. Mercury will keep someone in memory up to an hour after they leave, and it will not send a greeting to anyone who has not been gone for more then 10 minutes. I might actually change this timer or add some kind of 'ongoing raid mode' to make it not nag people who pop back in during a raid, but as most sims have a local spawnpoint now, it should be fine. In case the OIC list gets empty: Mercury will complain in game if the list is empty. It will then just forcefully add *every* Ordo member on sim and go down the list from high ranking to low ranking to see if they want command. If you hit 'No' when it asks it will remove you from the list, if you let it time out (I can only wait 20 seconds for a reply) it will ask once more before going to the next person. It will keep doing this until there is an assigned OIC. What needs work: The claiming of OIC needs work and isn't finished. The handling of 'Was I already looking for an OIC or not' in the backend daemon needs work, for some reason it can glitch there and stop looking while theres no assigned oic while thinking its actually still looking. All in-game interaction like removing yourself from oic, the que, removing someone else etc. This will not get done before the automatic stuff is working with minimal glitches. Automatic load balancing of in game servers where it reliably rezzes and de-rezzes extra servers as it needs them. This is a priority so it can keep up with mass teleports into the sims.
  6. Just to add some reason why :-) Unless lindens add a way to directly hook into a simulator to pull whatever data you want and not have to rely on lsl scripted objects, mercury will never be 100% accurate. It's all best effort and how accurate it is actually varies per sim release.
  7. In theory its possible to create an 'out of SL' map of a sim .. but that would take soooo much time to do, mapping the sim at like a 0.5m resolution and scanning every scripted and non scripted prim in there D: then stuffing it into a geospatial database so you can make pretty vector maps.
  8. As some people already noticed, when anyone joins the titan sims who has been away from them for over an hour, they will get a nice little notice popup stating who is OIC (which will be more accurate then '-' in the near future:P) and some basic status info. If you're an NCO or up it will give you some options as well, try and actually clicking something other then ignore or it might bog up the in game servers while they wait for you to reply :-) It does not actually do anything but informational as of yet so it does not matter which button you press, other then ignore.. People marked as hostile on Mercury will be notified that they will be fired upon, KOS people will also be notified of their status.
  9. I already adopt a 'return stuff prim by prim' policy. I would like to add to this: The sky is NOT a sandbox either! If i find random floating prims in the sky or on some makeshift skybox I'll return every object you own on the sim. Nothing worse then Astra bumping into crap during some dogfight.
  10. I have the USS FailBoat >.> Crashing into klingon battlecruisers since stardate .... something ..
  11. mmm kinda sorry I missed this one .. Just 2 things to add, Terra needs to be able to do its job properly with whatever arsenal is available, end of story. 2nd, the Five-seven *never* works properly for me, I don't know why or what's causing it or if I'm the only one, but the double keystrokes never register for me on it which makes it a poor 'main equipment' in my eyes.
  12. Sunday evening is never a good time! Sunday evenings are followed by monday mornings, monday mornings are the blight of this spacial existance! D:
  13. 'Dammit Aryte, now i have to re-arange my merits again!'
  14. I always have this measuring scale for buying pc games: It needs to have a higher entertainment value per buck then a cheap hooker .. I have bought too many games which just flat-out don't work or turn out to be such huge disappointments that it wasn't even worth waiting for the patch. I always try to download a game and try it before buying it, I'll even buy it after I've already finished the pirate copy if it provided enough fun. This saves lots of money which can be spent on good games and hardware to run said good games :-) At one point I had Silent Hunter 4 and after a few minutes playing it started doing weird things like making your crew vanish, so I looked on the official forums for anyone else having that problem and you'd see the occasional post about it followed by a whole horde of people screaming along the lines of 'ZOMFG P1RAT3!!!11' but nobody gave a confirming answer that this was actually the case. Then i just started a new post with 'I'm seeing this and this and is this really because of the copy protection because I'm holding off buying it because of this' and I've actually had a dev tell me that it was the case, so I just bought the game and confirmed it, and I'm still playing SH4 ever now and then :-)
  15. You all smell, go play a military game like arma2 instead of some console port !
  16. Firefox made a 'gridwide com' but because of Syl's security work on the new coms it'll be a bit hard to implement. I haven't actively meddled with it but it should be possible to set up grid wide relays with his system and some tinkering from Syl's side.
  17. so what was it .. i never have any issues on vista64
  18. I should play more .. Remma Bandit, usually hanging around the systems near jita.
  19. Isn't it great ♥ I was going through ancient notecards with Jayce a bunch of weeks ago and found all sorts of crazy stuff.
  20. Noticed more seasoned people are making 'hey!' threads so i figured I'd make one too. I'm Inoue Katsu and currently an O-2 and one of the 'nightshift commanders' because I am dutch. Because of my long time in the Ordo I figured a bit of history might be fun for others to read :-) I spent many many years administering a decent IRC network before the drama got so great that i sought refuge in Earth above and Beyond for a few months before starting with StarWars Galaxies, that lasted until the infamous 'NGE' (those who know it will shudder) from which point a lot of SWG vets went to SL, me included. Someone from SWG (who unfortunately isn't Ordo anymore) got me into the AN2 / V(enuma)C(oalition) as a cadet for what is now Terra. I think the AN2 became VC during my training .. because i have both the AN2 and VC cadet gear :-) My training consisted of a small amount of theory and assaulting a small bunker which was defended by seasoned members while underwater .. I still remember not having discovered the view distance yet and because the training was underwater it was more 'trying to avoid yellow bars while shooting some back from where they came into the grey abyss' Spent most of my time guarding the spawn-point which basically consisted of a stargate back then, gunning down griefers and AN shortly after they spawned.. Combat ethics were a lot different back then. Quickly made it to Sergeant (E-3 NCO level at that time, E-5 was the max if i remember correctly) and got drafted into the initial original Curia where i spent a lot of time bugging Aryte over things i saw that did not seem right in my eyes mostly because of not knowing what was going on behind the scenes. This behind-the-scene stuff led to the first, to my knowledge, hostile takeover attempt in what is now the Ordo. The MDF split off from the VC and there was lots of drama. This is still mentioned in the current handbook and Schola training today. When the VC went over into the N(ovus) O(rdo) I(mperialis) Curia (where i got E-4, vet sgt) got put on hold for the time and I spent most my time on defence again and joined with the roots of what is now Schola, training new cadets to the best of my knowledge and occasionally going outside the book during training in an attempt to do so.. Some of 'my' cadets still serve the Ordo to this day so I guess I did a decent job :-) Because Schola was quite new, Aryte did a lot of yelling at us for not grinding enough cadets into shape fast enough (they didn't show up half the time!) and new procedures were still being made. I got sidetracked from 'Schola' and enlisted into the newer Curia as a magister (O-1 promotion) with Sly Axon in charge. Delt with a lot of conflicts, slapping peoples heads together and spent a lot of time as officer of the guard during the quiet times, which was all by myself a lot of the time. The NOI slowly progressed with the occasional spurt forward and we went through a ton of sim builds (*cough*) untill the NOI came to an abrupt halt during what is now called Black November, everyone blamed the AN and the second the NOI was no more everyone went over to Tethys (former AN HQ) to let them know what we thought about that .. There was a lot of hate and grudges back then. Did some other random stuff on SL while Aryte started up titan industries till a bunch of ex NOI (mostly the old officer staff) started starwars RP, went there too and we evicted the seasoned Imperial commander, pissed off tons of (dark) jedi because 'all of a sudden stormtroopers had learned how to shoot and had a great line of weapons' .. much fun to be had :-) After pretty much conquering a lot of SW stuff for the imperial high command (read: Aryte) and keeping the peace, mostly by beating up sith, jedi and a dorky jawa, Aryte got the taste of being in command back in his jaws and the NOI was started back up under Ordo which started to put the fear into our old enemies right from the start. I got command over the 3rd Terra legion (Feratta) which I did for a while until handing it over to my 2nd in command Cyphre after some internal conflict from where my focus went more to trying to keep a global picture of what was going on and development of new systems. Most of you will know me as the Mercury/radar neko who hangs out in the depths of the outpost and makes weird (and occasionally seemingly inappropriate) remarks over any medium we have access to.. (including the random ranks showing up on the radar *whistles innocently*) but rest assured, I almost always have the best intentions in mind and there usually is a point behind what I'm saying, even though not everyone gets it always, which probably means it wasn't for you :-) I also try and not be some distant scary person you can't talk to and to make it my point to be on the front lines during combat under my command, keeping my ears open for trouble and discontent amongst all of you and trying to deal with it discreetly and anonymously with Aryte or whatever other party involved. I'm usually mellow when I'm in command but if someone pushes the boundries too far they can expect to be lynched. Well there you have it, the history of Inoue, the ordo and a bit of background on my person and how i got to be where I am ;) It was a lot of digging through memories while typing this and the occasional chuckle when pulling up old memories.. So i'd like to thank everyone (including Aryte ♥) who's been or still is in the VC, NOI and Ordo for giving me all this stuff to type about while I'm bored at work :31337: [edit] I'm also one of the estate admins for Titan, so just nag me if you need something even when I'm not on Titan. ;) and some typo fixing D: [/edit]
