Inoue Katsu
So a while after adding 'Defcon' levels to Mercury, someone finally noticed that I seem to have reversed the levels >.>Where 5 is the highest alert and 1 the lowest. Now the question is, should I reprogram it to be the other way around, but if nobody cares that would be a waste of time. Lanny Ansar
Well, being that Defcon 5 is the base level of awareness for a Nuclear Launch, and Defcon 1 is the level of "In case you haven't noticed, the clouds are mushroom shaped and it's raining Plutonium shavings..."Meh. It's up to you.
Crash Silverfall
Honestly, i think its best if we stay like this, i mean we are all used to it now.So if you got a mercz came in and it said lvl 5, and somebody doesn't pay attention enough we might shoot him.i'm just saying
Huttser
Personally if Mercury starts yelling DEFCON 5 every time 2142 attacks, Im going to get confused as the whole defcon system is ingrained into my head. I say swap it
Vinnie Lei
Change for the sake of change?Loose the DEFCON and keep it as it has been for years? It worked so far..Besides, would we ever see nuclear explosions on Titan?
Johann
It really doesn't matter. It -really- doesn't. It already tells you with the number what the number means. 0 - ignore, 1 - care less than two, 2 - not attacking :/, 3 - Eh, 4 - wat, 5 - OH MEH GAWD BATTER STAYSHUNZ, 6 - "Wipe them out... All of them."Hell, you could just do away with the numbers and keep the definitions.
Cyphre Iredell
With the larger numbers meaning higher, it coincides with current threat levels of individuals and groups in mecury, so the higher the number should probably correlate to our current standards of threat levels. Then one day we could freak everyone out with a DEFCON over 9000!!
Ethan Schuman
Besides, would we ever see nuclear explosions on Titan? Guess you've never been around for a Cheeso visit. Why does it matter if we emulate the DEFCON system? We have our system and it works for us. No need to mess with it. If people want a group with its entire structure ripped off the US military, they can build a time machine and go join the circa 2005-2006 Alliance Navy.Actually going in to do it and getting everyone used to it is just like me making this post... a waste of time. Scientific Waffle
Just rename it "threat level", which makes it obvious that higher number = higher threat. Calling it "DEFCON" would only make sense if a) people were familiar and used to the DEFCON system and b) our system actually matched DEFCON numerically. Trevor Russell
The idea was behind a long standing idea that the old "threat level" system wasn't enough. One lvl5 entry does not have the same urgency as 20 lvl5 entries. This is why DEFCON was used in ordo, as I recall, to differentiate it from threat levels. Lee Serenity
DEFCON measures the defense readiness of the defenders, not the threat level of the attackers. In which case, I agree with Mr.Waffle. If we wanted to implement the DEFCON system, we should have a DEFCON meter somewhere that lets everyone on base know the current probability of an attack, and the corresponding readiness level they should be exhibiting. Trinity Heckroth
LEave it as is. It correlates with our threat levels, which most people are used to. And while, sure, "Threat level 5 DEFCON 1" might make sense to some, surely there are others who will see it as "Oh its just one attacker. It's cool." Vinnie Lei
Guess you've never been around for a Cheeso visit.Multiple times, more then I could count. But a real nuclear explosion would be a little bigger then a sim (256x256m) :PI'll see what you guys will decide. Makes no difference in the shooting of heretics. Inoue Katsu
Aryte wants them reversed, even though personally i'd have liked to have sent an e-mail somewhere stating that they'd have to change the official defcon levels ..expect it to change at some point. Firefox Breed
There needs to be a manual way of setting the levels as well. That way i can hit it when a attack is coming.
Jake Stoanes
Quite honestly, I feel as if adding the defcon levels is just extra channel spam. While cool having the extra features, I believe that it is unneccesary and just extra's that we don't need.
