  1. Can we please get back to the topic at hand and stop measuring our forum e-penii? Thanks.

I do agree with Rein and what has been said. We could definitely improve some of what we say, such as stop saying that noone likes x person as a joke. While some may be able to take it as a joke (including me), others may take it more seriously, and I know a few people that would take such a phrase seriously.

  2. Yes, but it felt like you completely ignored what I said when you said "save up for better parts," and ignored anything I didn't list as salvagable.

Do keep in mind, my current desktop has AGP technology, and it's about 8 years old right now. Not much can be salvaged except for the monitor and anything connected through the USB ports.

  3. I would love to see multiple raids out at the same time, even if it's like two raids at a time (attack two places at the same time). Wouldn't be the first time anyone has done that, and I have had to split up a raid team to go to three different places when I was leading raids in a previous military (we literally had that many).

However, we don't always have the people on, nor the numbers on to go do these raids, and sometimes, I'm hard-pressed to find an officer that is on SL at the time a raid team is wanting to go out (I'm not necessarily leading it, but I have noticed this growing trend). Now, it's probably finals, but after finals, we should see more officers around, right (with exception to some that are on the quarter system and not the semester system)?

    a.) I need a new desktop

b.) This rig is already configured for SLI

c.) I am not going to spend more than what is budgeted, as I have stated.

d.) I am salvaging parts from my old computer, which are keyboard, mouse, monitor, and speakers.

e.) I am using over 150 watts more than what is needed, and it is SLI certified.

  5. Sadly, I have noticed this myself. I also have attempted to take out a raid myself, and when there wasn't much in the way of attackers available (either too many numbers or to little to be open), I tried to get one army signed off. Now, while I do have experience in leading raids in other militaries, I do not have such within the Ordo Imperialis. When I asked about getting signed off on a raid, after obtaining OIC permision, from two different officers (because one said they couldn't observe and asked me to ask another officer), I was told they didn't feel comfortable signing off on the raid, due to the target. While I understand the reasoning why (they didn't know how my raid record was, which was understandable, and the target was a Tier-2, which I would need their sign off on it anyway), I felt a bit discouraged when a raid was taken out less than half an hour later, and I was afk for a small bit, to take care of some RL stuff that I was planning on taking care of later on.

Now, I know I haven't been around to raid, but I have a damn good excuse, being hospitalized off and on these past few weeks. I know I'm probably a bit rusty on my raid leadership, since the last time I led one was back when I was in my previous military, but there would probably had been a few experienced people on that raid that could had given me advice in private if needed. I can't say what the outcome of that raid would had been, because it didn't happen.

  6. I already have a neat laptop, but I want to have a good desktop that is comparable or better than my laptop (so I can have a working desktop again). I'm wondering what you all think of this configuration.

    Specs:

    Case: RAIDMAX Altas ATX-295WB

Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Series EA-750 Green 750W

    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooling unit: ZALMAN CNPS 7500 COOLER MASTER Hyper 212

Motherboard: ASUS M4N98TD NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX ASUS Crosshair V Formula

    RAM: Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333

Video card: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB GDDR5

    Sound card: on board (motherboard)

    Hard Drive: SAMSUNG Spinpoint 1TB

Optical Drive: LG Black 12X Internal Blu-ray Drive

    Operating System: Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit

I do not need a new monitor (yet), nor a keyboard or mouse or a wireless card. This will be next to a router, so wired would work anyway.

Eventually I am planning on getting two video cards in SLI configuration. Please post your comments on your opinion of this build, and please do not turn this into an AMD vs. Intel or AMD/ATI vs. nVidia. I am wanting to make a reasonably priced gaming-class PC, under $1000, with blu-ray support, and 1TB Hard drive minimum, and at least a quad-core processor (no single, dual, or tri-core).

Also, if you want to recommend something less expensive than this build, please show it to me.

When I actually help out my clients, especially Gobshite Quarterly ( http://www.gobshitequarterly.com/ ), they are actually more computer savvy than the person you just described. Hell, GobQ even keeps a backup of their computers on an external hard drive ('course they use Mac, but not going to debate Mac vs. PC). And all of my clients are about the same age, if not older, than that person.

  9. and on a recurring event....someone fracked up the programming on whatever the event management software it is. >.>

Should had been a single e-mail for a recurring event not for each day, and make it a 'digest' as well (I wonder if it's Outlook...).

and here's the text from the video:

Fernando DeCarvalho, owner of Fernando's Cafe in Pittsburgh, has been a good friend to both Anthrocon and to the Furry Fandom. The economy has not been good to him of late, however, and he has made the sad decision to close his restaurant at the end of April, 2012. He will be left deep in debt, with no way to pay it off.

Fernando was the first person in Pittsburgh to roll out the welcome mat for us, and a visit to his cafe has become as integral to the Anthrocon experience as the Masquerade. We won't be able to keep him in business, but we sure as hell can help him get out from under the mountain of debt he's accrued, partly because he tried to stay in business beyond the "point of no return" just because he wanted to be there for us just one more time.

I can not think of any way other than Paypal to collect some money that I would like to deliver to him on April 21, when a gang of Furries is planning to descend on his little establishment for one last lunchtime party. If you would like to help, please consider a donation via Paypal to [email protected]. Kindly mark the donation clearly "FOR FERNANDO." If Paypal is not your thing, please send an email to that address and I will let you know of other payment options.

Again, this is not a call for idle charity; instead, think of it as an extended tip-jar. This is a call to say "thank you!" to a man who more than just about anyone else led to Anthrocon becoming a cherished Pittsburgh institution.

If you have been to Anthrocon, you know about Fernando's cafe. It's sad that he has to close up shop, but that cafe was a great cafe.

Apparently, he's about $1000 from being to stay open until AC 2013

  12. I actually learned on a very sensitive manual the first time I drove. Of course, it was technically a sports car (1990 Ford Probe), but I did drive for about a year on a pickup that was also a manual (1988 Mazda B2200 Cab Plus). That was fun to drive. I now drive an automatic, but for my next car, I may end up either getting a sports shift (hybrid between an automatic and a manual) or a CVT (Constant variable transmission).
