I've upped mine to Win8 also, it does still have some issues, but it's smoother and for once my OS demands less resources than my other programs.

Star Conflict Pretty epic, round/objective based game, feels a lot like World of Tanks, Freelancer, Freespace, Eternal Silence and some other games. Free to Play, On Steam, YUPlay account based. Choose Empire... of course.

I had done it for a time, It would be nice to have a few that can throw in things like that around the web and other social media. Can't set up repeatable events with steam or others though, kind of annoying.
