Schola Revisions, Input please

Recommended Posts

Instructors, do not use this outline. It is a BETA DISCUSSION THREAD.

Okay i've been assigned to completely revise the schola training as we have it at this time. Building it back up from scratch and i've finished a rough draft for what i like to have as the first 2 phases. I added a short note at the bottom of a really rough ( no seriously ROUGH) draft of what the other phases should look like but as long as this is in its childsteps i wanted to know if anyone has comments, suggestions or things that they want to have added. All of you have been in schola and unless you have been sleeping your way through with a buddy giving you the anwser module's for the exams you probably have comments .

Some suggestions i already took in consideration:

-Extended information on branches, a complete phase is dedicated to it and i am still figuring out if i want a sort of exam that determines what branch you should be in , as an advice just like the things you do in college to determine what study fits you.

-Communications, including Forum, Database, Ventrillo, Approaching civilians and visitors

-Advanced Combat, learning people stuff about the advanced menu's beacons, altcams and things like that

On top of that, Schola will be MUCH harder to pass from now on. There will be more exams, more open questions that requiry clarification and for all members of my staff i will have a nasty suprise when this is done" Magister Training".

okay opinions please..

This is by no means a complete outline but this is the rough draft of what it is going to look like. It is the bare skeleton. I need to add all the exams , walkthrough chats, and information into it but this is what it is going to look like.

Phase 1 and 2 worked out, phase 3,4,5 in progress. Basic information about those phases can be found at the bottom of this document

I'd like to see it much harder to get in. I know I breezed right in. It's easy to do simple book work. Just find the rule and copy it.

I'd like to see more short answer/interpretation/essay questions. I'd be happy to help grade these.

Being able to think for one's self is what separates monkeys from men. (Not to mention the Allies from the Nazis and Japanese in WWII.)

I'd recommend explaining there exists an Academy for Schola graduates, that can help them learn how to further develop their skills. I think that'd encourage them to look at Schola as the first step in a larger education that forms the core of the Ordo's training protocols, starting with schola, then branch specific training, then the Academies.

Yeah, i ment sunglasses so that will be changed.

Well about it being easy to get in Ordo. That is not quite the case. We Denied 200 applications since last october and for someone deemed satisfactory it may seem easy to get in Schola but often those people don't know that 3 recruiters and probably the imperator have looked at the their application and sometimes Curia as well. When we want you to be we us everything is easy like with gulliver, when we don't you soon find out how "easy"it is to get in.

Thanks for that suggestion btw, agares.

I like the new supposed outline as its more in depth with things.

I've always hated having to rush through things cause of the time limit put on each part, this new outline will eliminate that and allow us to teach the Cadets everything about the Ordo and sending those that pass into their choice of branch with all the info they need saving them from having to ask questions later.

I would like to see more depth on explaining all our weapons, particularly showing them being used maybe on the range or some where on the sim.

Another thing I think would be good is including more instructors from Navis and Astra, that way when we get to the part in Phase 2 where we discuss the divisions, we can have someone who is the that branch who will be able to explain it better than lets say someone in Terra trying to explain Astra or Navis.

Also moving the lecture outside the classroom particularly for the Weapons, Gear and Attire section in Phase 4 will make it more enjoyable for the Cadets.

In fact. It does include the Schola cap. For the same reason as you can't wear them in college or university classroom. Well about the Navis and Astra instructors diablos is probably right to some extend but that would only matter if phases would be conducted by 3 instructors, a representative of each division. But phases are hosted by one instructor and they are always part of one of the 3 divisions so you will always have a slightly influenced instructor and it doesn't really matter if that is a Terra or an Navis instructor. I will make an Walkthrough chat myself and the instructor training is part of this whole revision. Making sure that instructors are informed properly about the divisions should sort out that problem.

I still have to discuss if this should be mandatory but i also prefer Instructors to wear the Class-A Regalia when giving class to seem neutral.

The walkthrough will help alot, but wouldn't it just be easier to have someone from either Astra, Navis or Terra come in to the class as a guest speaker and inform the cadet that way as they will be able to do it better than lets say Me reading it off a notecard.

As they will be able to speak from a first hand perspective, like is lets say Damion was teaching a class who hasn't been part of Astra asked Heather to come and talk about Astra, she's be able to explain what Astra do better than Damion as she is Astra.

Its like someone who's knowledge of a subject is completely learned from a book compared to someone for has actually done it.

Hell I used to be an Air Cadet and have been flying before, but that doesn't mean I can talk about Astra and explain with feeling what its like to fly a Praeda or a Nemesis as I haven't done it.

Not to mention real world flying is completely different from SL flying as You have different factors to contend with such as lag, granted we all have experience lag, but I'm sure the lag I feel running through a sim is different to the lag someone in Astra feels trying to fly a plane around.

I feel you there i really do but this is raising a couple of problems. First and foremost the fact that you may not always have astra or navis members around. This would mean that a certain load of cadets cannot be trained or will be trained differently than the others. Well this is a minor concern. My major concern is that it also means that the instructor basically says "i am not infomed enough to do my job" and he gets someone else to talk about it. This doesn't make the instructor look very good and consider the fact that he doesn't have to go in the smallest detail about a division. The final outline will be created with the input of all the branches. The instructors will have knowledge of everything to a certain extend. As soon as someone asks, with how much degrees does the angle of the praeda rotate when i move with 120km per second then you can off course ask an astra to anwser all this persons questions in private ( after class that is ).
