Mazzy Fastback/Leia Mercy Apology to Ordo: 14SEP09
Agares Tretiak replied to Aryte's topic in General Discussion
I can still smell the hubris. -
WAIT, TENAKI WAS GONE? WUT.
-
Stay on topic, please.

Vae Victus class vessels are probably assault frigates... since any capital class vessel the Ordo would use is unlikely to be able to enter an atmosphere without severe damage to the ship and the planet. At any rate. I'm for a forest/green city sim still. >:|

I disagree. It would only take one, but we would discuss the issue for a few hours, before the light bulb was convinced it really wanted to change.
-
Dude, you're so ironic.

Middle-childish. But it's difficult with twins, since we switched roles frequently. I have a younger brother. We used to fight a lot, and have a couple scars to prove it. Errr. OH. I always got a room to mself, because I could wrangle the concessions out of my brothers that made it possible for me to do so.

Unlock system is sexy. Thank you for everyone who put it together.

Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse
Agares Tretiak replied to Aryte's topic in General Discussion
It's why we're doing the revamp: We're working on the redefinition of what the Guard do. The structural alterations you read about, are merely a beginning, to that end. -

ACtually, yeah. I noticed this. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse

Both are gone. But my guess is we'll be taking a much, much firmer stance on activity and membership. I'd say hold your horses, and wait till the reorganization is completed, for specifics on things like this. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse

Actually, I have some very clear cut ideas for what the Praetorians and Evocati can be doing. They are simply not for general observation at this time, but involved in the -ongoing- discussions the Praetorians are involved in. If the Imperator chooses to adopt them in part or whole, I'm guessing they'll be posted here. I'm only describing what has already been posted and the rationale for some of the changes, not all of the proposed changes. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse
Agares Tretiak replied to Aryte's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's that even when we had a full roster, we never had any clearly defined responsibilities, to the degree of other groups within the Ordo. I've always aimed to keep myself busy within the Ordo, but there was no definable hierarchy, beyond Imperator > Praefectus > Other Praetorians. We had a set of standards, for behavior, but not a whole lot to do with those standards in terms of activities that we were regularly expected to carry out, beyond our presence and support for things. At best, we were ceremonial advisers, unless we decided to take on projects for ourselves. This left us filling in a lot of gaps in the Administratio, at least for a while. With the current and considerable improvements in how the Administratio functions, those gaps are being filled by a group of active and competent personnel. That alone can easily explain, even partially, why this revamp is necessary. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse

Sorry, I'm half awake and not sure what's going on after a 12 hour drive today D: Essentially, Cyphre, that's exactly what we're working, in terms of redefining the Guard. It's just a step by step process, The Guard used to be a very active, semi-autonomous unit, that answered directly to the Imperator. Butt hat changed, as the guard took on less combat roles and more administrative duties. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse
Agares Tretiak replied to Aryte's topic in General Discussion
Those are issues being addressed currently, in debates with the Praetorians. There are various propositions being offered at the moment. As I had intended, with those parts I contributed, there's always been multiple ranks within the Guard, but they did not have very many differences or distinctions. All other descriptions aside, the Praetorians represent a specialized Paramilitary under the direct command of the Imperator, and an elite unit. Putting Praetorians under the command of Praetor Evocati creates a simple, but effective hierarchy that demands results and accountability on multiple points within the organization. Your other questions all relate to what I feel has been a regrettable lack of understanding, regarding the Guard and their multi-purpose existence, something that exists not only outside of the Ordo, but inside as well. In past, they've always served as more than just bodyguards and soldiers, but in other vital capacities, filling in the gaps of the Ordo. Or at least, that was the theory. Given that what you currently see is only part of a much wider reorganization effort, many of your questions will be answered as we make progress. To offer other answers, traditionally, there's only ever been 10 Praetorians, in this layout: 1 Praefectus 3 Praetor Evocati 6 Praetorian Gaurdsmen/Gaurdswomen The Praetorians, being an elite combat unit, the best the Otdo has to offer in every respect, means a level of communications and teamwork unparalleled within the Ordo. Small teams of three are much easier to manage, and the format being used has real world analogs, which I've studied extensively in terms of how they function on a fundamental level. The Praetorians have not had a major organizational update, in the years I've served. That's a very long time for the group to go unchanged, so we're rolling back, part by part, the years, in order to reform the guard to be contemporary. -
The title says it all, hope you have a great birthday!

I need to reactivate my account...

Ten points for Gryffindor indeed, Mr. Rozenstrauch.

Where does training in specific types of weapons and their proper deployment fit in, or would that be included in a personnel review as consideration?

That, I'm sure, will be worked out in due time. -
Primary Structural Changes: Praetorian Guard – At a Glimpse

Just to clarify, and if I'm wrong, the Imperator can bitch slap me like a recalcitrant street-worker who's not got enough cash from the night's earnings. But I digress. The rank equivalency concept is so that people outside of the Guard know the approximate position they are holding in regards to the normal rank structure. Furthermore, Praetorians still remain under the direct control of the Imperator, and thus do not have command authority, aside form OIC (following the normal lines of succession for assuming OIC). Essentially this means an 0-2 cannot order a Praetorian beyond basic defensive actions as an OIC or if that Praetorian, for some terrible, terrible reason, has stepped outside of the realms of acceptable behavior. Likewise, unless otherwise made by the Imperator's decree, Praetorians will not be able to generally order around Enlisted and officers (Though as is the tradition, they can always offer suggestions) beyond the normal constraints we're well aware of, regarding the Authority of members of the Guard. I'm bringing this up, because there was a question raised, and I realized others may have the same questions. -

As a Praetorian, I do not actually ascribe myself to any particular moral code, but rather one of ethical thought. The basis of it is as follows (in brief): - Stoically approach all problems with an open but pragmatic mind. - Serve with unswerving loyalty and dedication to the best needs of the Ordo and those who serve in the Ordo. - Remain dependable and able to adapt to the changing nature of our organization. - Work hard, without aiming for any praise or advancement: if you are deemed capable, it will be by your works and dedication to the task(s) at hand. - Be truthful in all your dealings with the Imperator, your peers, and your superiors. - Maintain a detached professionalism. Though a bit of a simplification, it's essentially what all the dedicated soldier sof the Ordo demonstrate, to some degree or another. And we have many, many dedicated soldiers in the Ordo.
